Leilani has recently been working with BBC Sport - using her background and passion for the environment and conservation to show how climate change and pollution are impacting wildlife in Florida.

Earlier I mentioned we had already had one award winner announced.
In July former racing driver Leilani Münter won the inaugural BBC's Evergreen Athlete Award.
She was chosen for this award for proactively demonstrating her ongoing support for environmental and/or climate change issues for a number of years as well as being recognised by the judges as one of the first athletes to use her platform to such prominent effect in raising awareness of environmental issues.

Image source, Getty ImagesAt a time when we continue to see the impacts of climate change all around us, BBC Sport decided to create the Green Sport Awards to draw attention to athletes who are championing the cause, as well organisations (big and small) who showcase how change is possible, focussing on positive stories in an area that is often dominated by more negative news stories.
Sport isn't immune to the effects of climate change and it is important to give audiences and fans an insight into what the impacts are but also the positive changes that can and are being made.

Welcome everyone to the inaugural BBC Green Sport Awards!
The first of it's kind award ceremony will be taking place as part of the Sport Positive Summit as we showcase the sportspeople, teams and organisations that have been using their platform to make a positive difference to the issue of climate change and sustainability.
With one award already announced (more on that in a bit) we will bring you the winners of the remaining four awards as they happen including the Athlete of the Year.
