This is only the third time a coach has taken two different sides to African Champions League success.
Ahly's coach Pitso Mosimane also did it with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.
The opposition that day? Zamalek of Egypt.

AL AHLY WIN THE AFRICAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Al Ahly's whole squad swarm the pitch in Cairo! They've done it - they've won the first ever African Champions League Final between the continent's two biggest rivals!
Mohamed Elshanawy
Al Ahly's goalkeeper takes the world's longest goal kick - you could have read War And Peace, Hamlet and Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix in the time it takes him to clear - and goes into the book for timewasting.
Al Ahly are so close they can taste it.
Nom.
Al Ahly 2-1 Zamalek
Zamalek looking desperate. They've got everyone in the Al Ahly area. But the ball in is too wild.
On the touchline Al Ahly's subs are giving it loads.
Al Ahly 2-1 Zamalek
Such a late goal for Al Ahly! And the celebrations took some time to clear - so there's going to be five minutes of injury time.
Al Ahly 2-1 Zamalek
IT'S IN! AND IT IS INDEED WORLD CLASS!
We'd said it was going to be a beauty - and it is!
Mohamed Magdy, to the left of the outside of the area, shows utterly magnificent control to flick the ball up with his knee and then in the same movement smash it across Gabal Ali!
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
Is this going to extra time?
Just a reminder that this will be the first African Champions League Final to be settled on the night - until 2020 it was a two-legged affair.
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
Mohamed Magdy for Al Ahly - another powerful outside-the-area effort, goes just wide.
Both teams are loving taking their shots from there, and to be fair, they're coming close.
It's as though, having seen the quality of Zamalek's equaliser, neither of them want to win with a tap-in. Only a world-beater will do.
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
Zamalek want a penalty!
A ball played in down the right, a collision in the area - the referee says no foul, but Zamalek are desperate for him to look at the TV.
This did not work out well for last year's final - the VAR system broke, leading to protests, sit-ins, and eventually a case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Thankfully, this doesn't go anywhere near that level of controversy. Zamalek get back on with it.
Amr El Soulia
El Soulia goes into the book for a heavy challenge on Zizo.
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
After a frantic fifteen minutes at the start of the second half, the game slows down a little.
Zamalek are still very much in possession, but they're gently stroking passes between each other in their own half.
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
Massive let-off for Al Ahly!
Zizo receives the ball in a central position outside the Ahly area, takes a couple of touches, and absolutely wraps his foot around it.
The shot is too good for Elshanawy, who gets nowhere near it. But it's just got a fraction too much bend on it, and cannons into the post.
It's all Zamalek now.
It's happened again!
Same goalkeeper, same action - the launch and punch for a high ball - but this time it's Zamalek's goalscorer Shikabala who Gabal Ali takes out.
As before, he takes a couple of moments to recover, but then is back on his feet.
Gabal Ali really needs to get better at shouting "mine".
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
Zamalek goalkeeper Gabal Ali reaches to punch clear a high ball, Superman-style - but in doing so, collides with the back of Ibrahim. The defender is dazed, but after a minute or so of attention he continues.
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
HOW. DID. HE. MISS.
Another absolutely extraordinary moment. We've already had an amazing goal - now we've had an astonishing miss.
Al Ahly break on the left and as they swarm forward, the ball is squared to Elshahat. Zamalek's keeper is nowhere. The goal is gaping.
And somehow Elshahat... hits the post.
The ball cannons back into Zamalek defender Mahmoud Ibrahim. Ibrahim ends up in his own net - but the ball does not; he does enough to put it wide for a corner.
Al Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
This time it's the pleasingly alliterative Zizo of Zamalek who puts the Ahly goalkeeper under pressure, breaking into the area with pace.
Elshanawy tries to shepherd him towards the edge of the area only to find himself caught in no-man's land, and is grateful for a fierce challenge to steer it away.
Ah Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
Mostafa smashes a shot from the outside of the area. Elshanawy smothers, but it was a good effort.
Ah Ahly 1-1 Zamalek
After Ahly found themselves with a lot of space on the flanks in the first half, Zamalek seem to be getting the same joy that way in the second.
A succession of crosses keep Ahly goalkeeper Elshenawy grasping at air, until he ends up being fouled, easing the pressure.
