People say who is next? Who is next for what? Who's going to fill the void as the best or the most track and field athlete? Someone will always fill that role but no one is going to be the new Usain Bolt and have that presence outside this sport.

You have to be unique. Usain has brought people into the sport who wouldn't be here. You have to transcend the sport in order to do that and be your own brand. He is extremely unique as an athlete and a person and that doesn't just automatically happen.

Tim Berners-Lee cranking out a tweet right on the stadium floor.

David Beckham getting his Bond audition in early, caning it up the Thames in a powerboat.

Yep, the London 2012 opening ceremony was something else.

The budget won't stretch so far five years later, but the world championship organisers have laid on a bit of a do.

    Let's see how this goes.

  3. Warming up for actionpublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 4 August 2017

British Athletics performance director Neil Black - a man with slightly less mojo than Bolt, but then aren't we all? - is also running an eye over his prospects in the warm-up area.

Usain Bolt is on the scene.

The Jamaican showman has been twerking around the warm-up track, plugged into his own tunes, oblivious to the star-struck fellow athletes who are attempting and failing not to stare at the ringmaster.

Bolt appears in the 100m heats at 20:20 BST.

Usain Bolt has only raced three times over 100m this year but he clocked 9.95 seconds to win the 100m in Monaco last month.

Has he still got the power in his legs to hold off his rivals?

We'll have a better idea when we see the 100m preliminaries at 19:00 and the first round at 20:20.

The semi-finals and final are on Saturday.
