One last thing before I go, here's the result of our vote: Team Mayweather will be the happier camp, with 55.8% of you saying their boy will win on the night, with 44.2% plumping for Pacquiao.

  2. Post update

Oh, I forgot to mention, if you fancy a ticket for the fight, it was announced by Mayweather's advisor Leonard Ellerbe that they will range from $1500 to $7500. Which, in actuality, is a bit of a nonsense, because after they've been carved up by sponsors, promoters, friends of fighters and celebrities, you'll have more chance of getting into Fort Knox.

  3. Post update

The 'family' photo raises one or two chuckles, although the sudden appearance of Mayweather's best buddy Justin Bieber suddenly wipes the smile from the boxer's face. That was that. I've seen worse. Although I do hope it's a bit less grave and a bit more spicy during fight week. Night.

  4. Post update

Floyd Mayweather: "First off I have to thank my father - an unbelievable trainer and person. I have to thank Showtime, MGM Grand, so many social media outlets, Al Haymon, Team Pacquiao - it has been a long road but we are here now.

"May 2. Fight of the century. The best fighting the best. Manny is one of the best fighters of this era, our game plan is to be smart just like we have been in the previous 47.

"The world cannot miss this fight. It will be action-packed. I am working hard in the gym, dedicating myself to the sport because I have never wanted to win a fight so much in all my life and I'm sure he wants to win just as badly as I do.

"One thing I know about sport. When you lose it is in your mind. If you lose once it is always in your mind. From an early age I was pushed to be a winner and be the best that I can be.

"I have to be thankful that we have all come together as one to give the world what they want to see. May 2. The world stops. Mayweather v Pacquiao the biggest fight in history. Thank you."

  5. Post update

There is a touch of the Apple new product announcement about this presser, when it comes to Mayweather's turn on the podium, so grave is his intonation that it's as if he's about to introduce a watch that doubles as a device that makes dreams come true. They're pretty much done for now, I think...

  6. Post update

    manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao: "I believe this is what you've been waiting for since five years ago. The fight is on and I know you're very excited. I know we will train hard for this fight and we will do our best to give you what you want. I'd like to thank God for this opportunity. I came from nothing into something and it's all credit to the Lord.

"I would like to thank [trainer] Freddie Roach for being very nice to me, [promoter] Bob Arum and Team Pacquiao. I'd like to thank the fans, the media, Showtime, HBO for making this fight happen so thank you and God bless."

Ninja Potato: "Mayweather's greatest skill is his ability to pick fights. He will win this fight, but five years ago Pacman would have won easy."

Andrew Priestley: "You don't get the sense that there is a boxing match about to take place between these two, it's more of a business deal."

  8. Post update

Pacquiao is up on the podium, we'll have a few words from the hard wee man in a moment...

  9. Post update

As Arum gives an impassioned introduction to Pacquiao, taking in the Philippines' taking in of Jews during the Holocaust and how they fought side by side with Americans against the Japanese, Pacquiao is busy texting. The modern generation, they just don't give a monkey's about history.

  10. Post update

Here comes Freddie Roach. I reckon he might have a few choice words to say, just to spice things up a bit. "We're fighting the best fighter in the world - but we're gonna kick his ass..." Lovely stuff, even Mayweather liked that.

  11. Post update

Stephen Espinoza, Showtime vice-president: We're so proud and excited to have helped bring this fight together. But we're not at all surprised this fight was made, it's always been a top priority, both for Floyd and us. Floyd has wanted the Pacquiao fight badly since 2009 but the infamous drug-taking clause meant the fight didn't happen."

  12. Post update

Bob Arum gets a clap from Mayweather as he takes to the stand. They're supposed to hate each other but they shake hands and Mayweather flashes the old man a big grin. I guess a few hundred million dollars will make hate go away, at least for a few months. "It's been seamless," says Arum, overlooking the fact it's been six years in the making. "We're all family," he continues. If he means a happy one, he's probably wrong. If he means like the Corleones, he's probably right.

  13. Post update

    Foyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

It's Mayweather's right-hand man Leonard Ellerbe doing the introductions. Not surprisingly, Mayweather's advisor Al Haymon isn't up on the dais. Haymon, educated like Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum at Harvard, made his name in the music industry. He is also more elusive than the Yeti, leading some to believe he might actually be a figment of Mayweather's child-like imagination.

  14. Post update

    Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao has a slight Mona Lisa smile on his face as he faces up to Mayweather, the American has nobody's smile on his. Mayweather is a couple of inches taller and is wearing the better suit, by some distance. No beef to report - as yet. Remember when Mike Tyson met Lennox Lewis for the first time? Tyson ended up taking a chunk out of Lewis's leg. And they say boxing ain't what it used to be...

    Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao was introduced to the dais by HBO annnouncer Michael Buffer, Mayweather gets Showtime's Jimmy Lennon Jr. Who will announce Buffer and Lennon on 2 May remains a closely guarded secret. Mayweather is on the stage and here they come, face to face...

  16. Post update

Our stream has kicked in and the news conference it about to begin. It's Michael Buffer doing the honours, a man whose introductions become more irrelevant as stereo technology gets louder. Pacquiao is on the stage, we await Mayweather...

  17. Post update

Floyd Mayweather made $2500 for his pro debut, against Mexico's Roberto Apodaca at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas on 11 October 1996. Apodaca was also making his debut that night, and his career ended two years later with a final record of four fights and four defeats, three by KO.

  21. Vote

    Floyd mayweather

Are they past their best? Should the fight have happened sooner? How much will they earn? All big questions.

But the biggest of all is, of course, who will win?

The bookies make Floyd Mayweather favourite, but the gap is closing, with reports of a rush of money against Money....

You can vote on the right-hand side of this page, or via the vote tab on your mobile or tablet.

We'll be closing the vote at 21:15 GMT and giving you the result soon after.

  22. Post update

HBO Sports president Ken Hershman: "This is the Super Bowl of boxing and we're happy to be part of it. They're the two greatest boxers of their generation, they're in the same weight class and how often does that happen? I never realised until I got here today, walked the red carpet and saw all the cameras what a special event this is. This fight will transcend boxing. Tune in on 2 May - it's going to be very special."

  23. Post update

    Floyd Mayweather

Alex South on Twitter for the BBC: "Pacquiao said it's his biggest fight. Mayweather to the BBC: 'It's just another fight.'"

  24. Post update

Strange to think that, as it stands, Mayweather and Pacquiao have only ever met once, at a basketball game in Miami a couple of months ago. But in a few minutes it will time for the men to come nose to nose for the traditional face-off - and only then will the fight seem like a reality for the first time.

  25. Post update

Righto, stand by for the news conference proper, which is due to start now. But isn't going to. I'll keep you posted...

Kevin Chadwick: "The Manny that marmalised Hatton, smashed Cotto and rearranged Margarito's face is the one who should have faced Floyd way back."

Nathan Bertram: "Mayweather to win. He could have had this fight years ago and knows Manny is different after the losses he's had. Come on Manny!"

Andrew Priestley: "It'll be great to finally see Mayweather and Pacquiao go toe-to-toe in the ring. It's just a shame it didn't happen 5 years ago."

Floyd has been grabbed by BBC World Service's Ade Adedoyin, and here are a few quotes. "To be involved in the biggest boxing fight in history is a blessing, but I've already been in the biggest fight in boxing twice before. Mayweather has arrived on the red carpet, somewhat behind schedule. As such, I'm not confident the news conference will start on time. They're supposed to be on the dais at 2030 GMT...

  32. Post update

    Michael Buffer and Jimmy Lennon

BBC World Service just grabbed Michael Buffer for a chat on the red carpet. Buffer is the man with the trademark that helps define modern boxing - "Leeeets Get Readeeee To Rumbleeee." There was a feature about him on the BBC Sport website not too long ago, which you can read by clicking here.

"I wanted a handle, a hook, just like at the big car races: 'Gentlemen, start your engines!' I wanted something that would bring that energy back, because the fighters were the stars of the show and I wanted to introduce them with the energy they deserved.

"I tried a few versions and nothing seemed right. But then I thought about the great Muhammad Ali - in interviews I had heard him say 'I'm ready to rumble'. I fine-tuned that to what you hear today."

  33. Manny Pacquiao on Twitter

    Mayweather-Pacquiao news conference

Manny Pacquiao got a few early blows in before the press conference: "I'm here to prove that I can easily beat the undefeated.

"Beating Floyd is good for boxing. When athletes have great success, their success goes to their head. That is bad for boxing.

"The Lord my God that I am serving will deliver him into my hands."

  34. The Contract

    Mayweather-Pacquiao news conference

Floyd Mayweather confirmed the fight on 21 February by posting a picture of the signed agreement between the two fighters on a social media account.

He wrote on his webpage: "What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs Pacquiao on May 2, 2015 is a done deal.

"This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport. Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2."

  35. Mayweather: Who is Gordon Ramsay?

    Mayweather-Pacquiao news conference

American network Showtime Sports asked Floyd Mayweather if he would like his post-fight meal to be cooked up by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

To which Mayweather replied: "No disrespect, I don't even know who that is."

  36. The Records

American Floyd Mayweather Jr is undefeated in 47 professional fights, a run stretching back to 1996.

He defeated Argentine Marcos Maidana on points in his last two contests, extending his career earnings to more than $400m.

    Floyd Mayweather

Philippine Manny Pacquiao has won 57, lost five and drawn two of his 64 professional fights.

The six-weight world champion recently defended his WBO welterweight title after beating Chris Algieri on points in November last year.

  37. Post update

Manny Pacquiao's manager Bob Arum: "Manny has a better arsenal. Floyd is a great defensive fighter but this guy, when he is focused, has all the tools to drive Mayweather crazy. He punches from funny angles. Ask Ricky Hatton about him [Pacquiao knocked the Manchester fighter out in two rounds in 2009]."

Is this the biggest fight in boxing history?: "I go back to the Ali-Frazier fight, we had no satellites then, no social media, it's hard to compare. I know my country stopped. The fight was on a Wednesday and nobody went to work. In this era this is the biggest fight and that's the best you can say. People finally got sense and put it together."

  38. Post update

    Freddy Roach and Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach: "When I heard the fight was on, I was the happiest guy in the world. We have had two training days and I am happy with where everything is. By the time the fight comes round Manny will have everything glued in his head.

"My guy is too fast, he hits too hard. I think Floyd's legs are shot. He says he wants to stand and trade more and entertain the fans more, but I don't think that is true. He has to say that. I [trained] Oscar de la Hoya and had him beating Floyd in the first six rounds of their fight in 2007. I know how Oscar won those rounds and I know how he lost the fight as well.

"I have been in some big fights before, but this is something else. It makes everything else we have been involved with like a little game show."

  39. Post update

Manny Pacquiao and his connections have already strode the red carpet at the Nokia Theater, Mayweather is expected to begin the rounds of the world's media in approximately 25 minutes. Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer for the last 15 years, stopped for a chat with BBC World Service...

... in truth, hardly any tickets for the 18,000 capacity MGM Grand Garden Arena will be on sale to the general public, but they are already being advertised on the secondary market for $25,000 - and that's just for a spot on the floor. If you want to be ringside, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum says you'll need a $250,000 credit line with the MGM Grand Casino. And this time, celebrities won't be getting freebies - Jack Nicholson, David Beckham, Rihanna and Bobby Davro will be expected to pay upwards of $100,000 for the privilege...

Evening. There will be quite a big fight in Las Vegas on 2 May, when Floyd Mayweather takes on Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Despite the size of the contest - it is expected to be the richest in history, with the purse expected to be in the region of £167m - there is only one news conference, which is scheduled to kick off at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles at 2030 GMT. Given that this is boxing, it might not kick off until later...
