    A recap...

Joseph Parker beat Britain's Hughie Fury on points to retain the WBO world heavyweight title in Manchester.

The New Zealander, 25, won the bout 118-110 on two judges' scorecards, while the third scored it as a 114-114 draw at Manchester Arena.

Parker landed several big punches in the 12th round against 23-year-old Fury, the cousin of former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

It was Parker's second successful title defence.

  6. 'Pure aggression was the winner'published at 00:00 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Steve Bunce
BBC Radio 5 live boxing pundit in Manchester

I can't join the chorus of people saying Hughie was robbed. This was a case of judges agreeing with a certain style of boxing. Pure aggression was the winner on the night. Plain and simple.

Paul Mulligan: Always going to get 'controversial' cards in boxing. Judging so subjective. Maybe time to modernise and take stats into account?

Chris Wex: Fury might want to try some offence next time. Hard to argue with the result. I doubt any future contenders will fear these two.

  8. Worth an appeal?published at 23:57 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

    Steve Bunce
BBC Radio 5 live boxing pundit in Manchester

Most recently the WBO agreed to review a decision between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn.

And what happened with that was the reviewers came back with a glowing report for the judges so Mick Hennessey can lodge an appeal, but don't be surprised if it returns the same result.

  9. 'I had it two rounds to Fury'published at 23:57 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

    Mike Costello
BBC Radio 5 live boxing commentator in Las Vegas

This is fascinating. I had it by two rounds to Hughie Fury but two of the judges saw it clearly for Parker and that shocks me because Parker to me scored very little. But this goes to show, boxing is about interpretation.

But there was an urgency from Peter Fury to take the fight to Parker and connect more cleanly, and that's the reason why.

  10. 'Some very convincing Parker rounds'published at 23:56 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

There were certainly some very convincing Parker rounds. There was about two or three and we did see that right hand land very cleanly. That may have been the difference.

  11. 'Parker looked resigned to lose his title'published at 23:55 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

    Mike Costello
BBC Radio 5 live boxing commentator in Las Vegas

There's this age old argument that effective agression in boxing is often rewarded. And Parker looked resigned to lose his title. He didn't look convinced that he won it.

  12. 'I'm going to lodge an appeal straight away'published at 23:55 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

Promoter Mick Hennessey said on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was a masterclass. Beautiful boxing by Hughie and I can't see why these judges have robbed this poor young lad. It's disgusting. I'm going to lodge an appeal straight away."

Peter Fury said: "I wanted him to do more, I wanted him to throw the right hand more but I did think he won it. He has to let his shots go more and I've always said, if you want to beat a champion, you've got to take it from them."

  13. 'A great result, but a lot to work on'published at 23:52 British Summer Time 23 September 2017

Winner Joseph Parker says: "I felt I won the fight so am happy to take the belt back to New Zealand. We both put up a great fight.

"It is awesome to get the victory. My aggression was really good. He did move very well, I thought we caught him with the harder punches and it is great the judges saw it that way.

"A great result, but a lot to work on. This opens up big fights here. The plan was to come here, establish ourselves, now we have a win here we can get some more big fights."

One judge has it as 114-114, the other two have it 118-110 to Parker.

New Zealander Joseph Parker holds on to his title. Have to say I'm surprised by that scoring. Eight rounds margin to Parker, say two of the judges.

    Mike Costello

Hughie Fury with a great display of defence and cleverness tonight. He may have pulled off a similar victory to his cousin Tyson, when he beat Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf two years ago.

But it's down to the judges.
