Tyson Fury's shot at completing a remarkable return to the top of world boxing saw him survive two knockdowns to share an enthralling draw with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in Los Angeles.

In one of the most thrilling heavyweight contests for years, the Briton was floored in the ninth round and brutally dropped in the 12th, somehow regaining his feet to survive for two minutes.

Fury had shown plenty of the evasive, counter-punching skill set which made his name before his 30-month spell away from the sport and he enjoyed joy during the middle rounds.

But in the 12th he lay motionless after a savage combination, barely making the count to see out the contest, which was scored 115-111 for Wilder, 114-112 for Fury and 113-113.

The challenger felt he had won and had he stayed on his feet in the final three minutes, the WBC title would have been his.

After 36 minutes of the most tense and absorbing action, both men spoke of a rematch and such a date now appears a certainty.

Matt Edley: Anyone see the the comparison between Ali-Frazier 1 and this fight? Last round knockdown? A man coming back & boxing beautifully? Fury won that but what a fight.

Andrew Bissett: Fury was seconds away from losing that fight but how anybody can score it in favour of Wilder over the 12 rounds is absolutely beyond my comprehension.

Paul: Maybe they should get completely neutral judges judging these boxing fights? It's no good in a fight between an American and a Brit having an English judge and at least one who resides in US.

  15. Scores on the doors...published at 06:19 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2018

Here is the scoresheet. Notice the middle columns which were read out incorrectly as 114-110 when it should have been 114-112.

Also notice judge Alejandro Rochin, who gave each of the opening four rounds of the fight to Wilder. Rochin was clearly watching a different fight to me and almost everyone else on social media.

Without that knockdown in the last round, Fury would have been the world champion.

Rhys Thomas: Tyson Fury for sports personality of the year?

Badreddine Ayad: What a fight! Tyson Fury absolute warrior and true fighting man to get up from that knockdown in round 12! Great fight.

  20. 'These judges were terrible'published at 06:09 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2018

Wilder v Fury ends in a draw

"They need to get some good judges, these judges were terrible," is the scathing verdict from Lennox Lewis on BT Sport Box Office.

Lewis is a man who knows what it feels like to be denied a win when you think you've got the job done in America when his fight back in 1999 with Evander Holyfield ended in a controversial draw.
