Never mind the Joshua weight loss, what about the 15lbs Ruiz has gained?

    That has stunned a few.

This week I spoke with his trainer Manny Robles. I was trying to get to the bottom of when Ruiz started training again after 1 June.

All he kept saying was that they’d had a three month camp.

That still leaves three months between the last tight and when he started training. Did he put his feet up? If so it doesn’t bode well.

Shifting 20st and 3lb around the ring is no easy feat.

BBC 5 Live Boxing’s Steve Bunce has just put his cards on the table.

“I think he might need to be rescued Ruiz. I think if Joshua has his confidence back we may see Joshua win and Ruiz rescued from his bravery late in the fight.”

Richie Woodhall will be 5 Live’s ringside pundit this weekend. It’s worth stressing he spends a lot of time with Joshua’s trainer Rob McCracken.

“I see this as a fight for Joshua to win. He wasn’t in condition last time,” says Woodhall.

Interesting. More and more it feels like something was wrong with Joshua in the first bout.

And so the face-off. No silly antics now gents, we’ve come this far.

In keeping with the months that have gone before, it’s very sporting. Credit to both of them for the way they have carried themselves throughout.

Ruiz must love Joshua - the man changed his life. One wonders how AJ feels in comparison.

Andy Ruiz Jr comes in heavier by 15lb. Last time he was 268lb, now it’s 283lb, which is just over 20 stone.

What do you make of that?

Not enough training? Or will it make him more durable than last time, when he took some punishment and won through.

Hand on heart, I do wonder if the distraction that followed his win will cost him.

    Joshua scales 16st 13lb.

No one saw him being that light until midweek. It really is a bold move. Speed and fluidity appear key in his mind.

That’s 10lb lighter than last time. Bold. Very bold.

Anthony Joshua leaves his hotel block and those who spot him begin to roar.

Both men are here. Let’s do this.

Kinder, Christian and Sebastian have made it over from the Midlands.

No issues at all with visas or tickets they tell me. And it’s even cost them less than it did to get to the first fight in New York.

    Double bubble.

The Andy Ruiz Jr bank balance got a nice boost on 1 June as he humbled Anthony Joshua.

It will get a lovely little boost for Christmas this weekend too.

His family may get some cool gifts. His dad will hope they aren’t cars.

What a difference six months made.

Here we see the photograph of Mike Costello and Steve Bunce interviewing Andy Ruiz for the BBC in June. No one gave him a hope, few felt the need to spend lengthy amounts of time interviewing him.

At the bottom we have the image from this week. Ruiz has been doing interview after interview. What a difference a night made in the life of the proud Mexican.

  19. 'I just want to do the job' - Joshuapublished at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2019

Anthony Joshua is probably 10 minutes from weighing in.

He’s had a ‘strictly business’ aura about him all week.

There have been whispers he was a bit fed up with the distractions in his life and the need to put on a show for the masses. As he told BBC Sport editor Dan Roan, his goal is simple this time.

So the current scene is nice and lively. There were fears thing may be a touch flat.

I would say around 400-500 people are here surrounding the stage. There are a few flags, some booming tunes and not an ale in sight.

Go grab yourself a fizzy pop and turn the tunes up on your headphones and it will feel like you’re with us.
