Lyndsey: AJ winning them belts backs, nobody thought he'd do it even high profile pundits were backing Ruiz to do the same. Any man who can get beat like that and overcome that loss in the manner he did is simply on a higher level mentally.

    Very nicely put Lyndsey.

So Tommy Fury will be back in the ring for the first time since his Love Island heroics this summer.

He shot to fame, found a girlfriend, made a few quid doing modelling shoots and appearances, and told us all along he would return to boxing.

Some have asked why you would take punches when you can earn well in a safe manner. Some wondered if he'd even have the stomach for the fight game. His response is emphatic.

"The only thing I want in life is to be world champion," Fury, 20, said this week.

"I am not interested in money, fame or anything else.

"Taking a few months out isn't really going to do me the most harm," added Fury. "It was something I wanted to do. It's paid off massively but I don't want anyone to forget what I did before that. I am not a reality TV person, I did it for a couple of months. I am a boxer, 100%."

Tommy Fury, fresh from coming runner-up in Love Island, has a lot of eyes on him tonight and a lot of new fans.

Anything that brings the sport to a new audience can only be a great thing.

But can he actually fight? Is he actually a serious boxer?

Fury, the brother of Tyson, is up next.

    Williams beats Fox

Liam Williams speaks to BT Sport after beating Alantez Fox: "I put so much hard work in the gym we executed the gameplan perfectly. it goes to show what hard work and dedication can do.

"I've had good people around me, good people I can learn off, Billy Joe Saunders, Kell Brook, so it's watching people constantly and the great knowledge of Dominic Ingle (trainer).

"I have great respects for all opponents. As far as the champions go, I will treat them the same as I treated Fox tonight."

So when will Williams get his title chance at middleweight? Current champion Demetrius Andrade aims to defend his title against Ireland's Luke Keeler in Miami in January so Williams could get his opportunity next summer / early autumn.

  7. Williams wins via fifth-round stoppagepublished at 21:19 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019
    Breaking

Liam Williams will be fighting for the WBO World Middleweight Championship in 2020. A pretty-much perfect performance. He had knocked Alantez Fox down in the fourth and continues the assault in the fifth.

Another beautiful overhand right is the beginning of the end. Fox's legs are like jelly, he bounces into the ropes, then into the referee and Williams is relentless throwing and landing hard lefts and rights.

And that's that. Referee Steve Gray stops it and Williams wins it.

  8. Fox docked a pointpublished at 21:19 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

    Round 5

Another crushing right rocks Fox's head. The American then goes into survival mode and grabs hold of Williams. Referee Steve Gray is not having any of that though and Fox gets a point taken away for holding.

  9. 'One more round and it's stopped'published at 21:17 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

"You good, you feel good?" shouts Liam Williams' trainer Dominic Ingle.

    "Relax. Just execute your shots."

Fox's corner tell their man: "If I see another round like that I am stopping it."

    Round 4

The bell saves the American. Fox was down, he got up, but clearly hurt and in trouble again at the end of the fourth. I'd say Williams has won all four rounds so far, and that fourth round will be marked as a 10-8 round. It's been all Williams. Superb so far. Flawless.

    Round 4

Fox gets up and makes the count, but Williams then sprints in looking to finish this one.

  13. Fox downpublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

Fox is forced back against the ropes in the fourth and some more good shots to the head of the American.

A overhand right from Williams and Fox is down..

Round 3 - Liam Williams v Alantez Fox

Fox walks into a right and left combination and the American is now cut too. We're seeing some excellent footwork from Williams, he's dancing in and out landing and not getting caught. Beautiful stuff.

Seeing the replay again, the cut to Fox came from a Williams elbow, not punch.

  15. Edwards takes British title...published at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2019

If you're just tuning in to tonight's action, Sunny Edwards has become British super-flyweight champion despite being knocked down by Marcel Braithwaite in the seventh round of their contest.

Edwards, the younger brother of former WBC world flyweight champion Charlie Edwards, extended his record to 14 wins from as many contests with a unanimous 118-109 117-110 117-110 points win.

Round 2 - Liam Williams v Alantez Fox

This is hugely impressive from Williams so far. He jumps in and lands with a right hook. He is the aggressor and so far Fox has hardly been able to land anything on him.

That cut for Williams is the only bad news so far - maybe it came from a clash of heads - the pictures aren't really conclusive one way or the other. It is only just above the eye, but might be something that forces Williams to have an extra degree of urgency about his work.

Round 1 - Liam Williams v Alantez Fox

Alantez Fox is a 6ft 4in middleweight, so you would expect him to be pretty handy with the jab, but it's the Welshman who is having some early success with that shot.

Fox has lost once in his career - to the aforementioned Demetrius Andrade, although Fox did put the champion down before losing it on points.

Williams has a great first round, although he does pick up a cut above his right eye. One to monitor.

Next up is Wales' Liam Williams, who has won 21 of his 24 fights with only two losses - both against Liam Smith.

The first of those losses back in 2017 denied Williams the WBO World Super-Welterweight Championship.

But Williams has now gained five wins on the bounce and this fight against American Alantez Foz is a final eliminator for the WBO World Middleweight Championship - held by unbeaten American Demetrius Andrade.
