Marshall, who won a Commonwealth Games gold medal as an amateur is looking to finish this one off quickly. Another short right and Lindberg is down again.

That was a crushing right hand from Marshall and Lindberg showed great courage to get up from that heavy knockdown. We continue and into the third. Flawless so far from Marshall.

You ok? Says the referee to Lindberg, she nods and we continue. But for how long?

  5. Lindberg downpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

A right hook from Marshall lands on the Lindberg chin, and she's showing great variety in the work, a left to the body, an overhand right and Lindberg is down.

    Round 1

Very, very good opening round from Savannah Marshall. She is moving around the ring expertly, she is keeping her smaller opponent at range and also occasionally looks to mix it up with a big chopping down right hand.

A great start for the British world champion.

    Round 1

Marshall is much taller with a longer reach than her opponent. She has an upright style, popping out the jab early on from the centre of the ring. Lindberg is going to have to take some chances if she is going to make an impact.

Savannah Marshall will defend her WBO middleweight title against Maria Lindberg after the late withdrawal of her original opponent.

The Briton was due to face ex-super-middleweight champion Femke Hermans but the Belgian has pulled out after a member of her team contracted Covid-19.

    Sweden's Lindberg, 44, is a four-time world title challenger.

"It's a tougher fight," said Marshall, who is unbeaten in her nine professional bouts. "Maria is very experienced - tough. She has been in with some of the best in the world."

Hartlepool's Marshall won her world title by beating Hannah Rankin over seven rounds in October.

  15. 'Both wanted it so badly'published at 21:32 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

Promoter Eddie Hearn tells Sky Sports Boxing: "I'm really pleased for Shannon, she deserved it. Every fight she is in, she is entertaining. I remember going back stage [after Courtenay's loss to Rachel Ball] and she was mesmerised and was like "it's not the end for me, is it?"

"It was a great advert for women's boxing. It's probably the biggest build-up fight for a women's fight, but if it doesn't deliver it's no good for anyone. Both wanted it so badly and Shannon deserved to win and hurt Ebanie Bridges three times. I would love to see the Rachel Ball fight [for Courtenay] next.

  16. 'You can do anything'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 10 April 2021

New WBA Women's World Bantamweight Champion Shannon Courtenay tells Sky Sports Boxing: "I can't put it into words, it's unbelievable. This is not just my belt, this is my team's belt and we've worked so hard.

"For someone who has turned her life around, this shows you can do anything.

"I boxed nicely and hit her with the cuter shots, she's good at trading but I think my jab won me the fight and I stuck to the gameplan.

"Every time I went back [to the corner] they said 'box, box' and I won the fight."

Great Britain's Shannon Courtenay is the WBA Women's World Bantamweight champion.

She gets the verdict on all three cards. One judge has it 97-94, while the other two have it as a 98-92 win.

Six rounds in it seems a bit generous to me, but Courtenay will not care one bit.
