  1. Goodbye!published at 23:32 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Thank you for joining us tonight. A real disappointment for British fans but a dominant and professional display from Zhang - a card marker for the heavyweight division.

    Until next time.

  2. Report: Zhilei Zhang beats Joe Joycepublished at 23:31 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

British heavyweight Joe Joyce was sensationally stopped in the third round by Zhilei Zhang in London, leaving his dream of securing a world-title shot - and perhaps his career - in tatters.

Joyce once again struggled against the power of 'Big Bang' Zhang before a thunderous counter right hook floored the Londoner at Wembley's OVO Arena.

The 38-year-old admirably rose to his feet but was in no state to continue. Moments after the referee waved off the contest, Joyce sat on his stool receiving oxygen.

The result comes five months after 40-year-old Zhang's shock sixth-round stoppage win over the previously undefeated Joyce.

The Chinese boxer retains the WBO 'interim' title and mandatory challenger status to unified world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

  3. 'It's very disappointing'published at 23:27 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Zhang knocks out Joyce

Frank Warren speaking to TNT Sports after Zhilei Zhang's knock out win over Joe Joyce:

"It's very disappointing. First couple of rounds he [Joyce] got it right and he was moving left. Then he went toe-to-toe and got caught. If he continued to do what he was doing past five or six rounds then it would have been interesting. He got caught with a really good shot.

"Zhang is in a position as the WBO interim champion now, he's the mandatory for that title. Next year he'll probably fight whoever holds that belt."

  4. Postpublished at 23:23 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Zhilei Zhang is leaving the OVO Arena with a lot more fans than he arrived with. At least one selfie seeker has to be pushed out the way by security.

He might not be the biggest name in the heavyweight division, but after two crushing wins in the last few months, he has surely earned his shot at a giant fight.

"I want to ask the audience a question. Do you want to see me shut Tyson Fury up?," roars Zhilei Zhang (via a translator).

He gets a good positive response. In particular from the pocket of Chinese fans, who were going understandably doolally about that result.

  6. 'We came to entertain'published at 23:15 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Zhang knocks out Joyce

Zhilei Zhang spoke to TNT Sports after his knockout win over Joe Joyce:

"I'm happy. Like I said before the fight, it's going to end sooner than the first one. Joe, I like him, I respect him and I will let everyone witness Chinese power again."

"This is what we're here for, we're professional fighters. We came to entertain the crowd and we did it. I hope everyone enjoyed my performance. Thank you to everyone who came here today and witnessed my greatness in front of Chinese social media."

The TV cameras captured Joe Joyce leaving the arena, as Zhang absorbed the (rather grudging) admiration of the crowd.

His eyes had the look of a man without belief, who perhaps knows his time at the top of the sport is over. He did thank a few fans cheering him though, which was good to see.

It was an absolute peach of a punch. The technique was perfect and set up by the jab.

    Zhang knocks out Joyce

What next now for Joe Joyce? He was supposed to be the next one out the stables to fight in the blockbusters. Those dreams are surely over now.

Meanwhile Zhang remains the WBO interim heavyweight champion, and is the mandatory challenger for Usyk. He has also said he wants to fight Tyson Fury. That would be fascinating.

    Zhang knocks out Joyce

Watching the replays, it was textbook from Zhang. He worked Joyce with the left, lowered the Brit's defences, and landed an earth-shattering right to his undefended jaw.

Good news - Joyce is up on his feet and looks ok.

    Zhang knocks out Joyce

An absolutely enormous right hook from Zhang, who utterly dominated that short fight.

Joyce looked cumbersome, you could tell he had packed on the weight following the first fight, and utterly lacking in confidence.

But all credit must go to Zhang, a hugely impressive display from Big Bang.

    Breaking

An absolute haymaker from Zhang leaves Joyce face down on the canvas!

    It's all over!

  13. Round 3published at 23:02 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

There was a long break between round two and three, more than a minute. Did the timekeeper need the loo?

Joyce is already bearing scars from tonight, and he has not brought any pace to this fight. The tempo completely suits Zhang.

A couple of attempted punches from the Brit, but absolutely nothing to trouble Zhang - who fires in another massive left to the face of Joyce!

All the power, all the good punches, are being thrown by the man from China.

Joyce has to deal with the psychological demons of the first fight. The damage that Zhang did to his eye.

There is very little head movement again from Joyce, allowing Zhang to pick up some big hits here.

Another left gets through from Zhang, and a couple more! Zhang on top at the bell, this is worrying for Joyce so far.

  17. Round 2published at 22:56 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Zhang has said he will target Joyce's eye again in this fight, so he's playing a waiting game - ready for an opening to hit the sweet spot.

And he lands the first big punch of the fight, a hammer of a left which Joyce walks into!

Joyce looks hurt, is history repeating itself?

    Zhang v Joyce

    Richie Woodhall
Former boxing world champion on TNT Sports

The main thing Joyce has to do is move to his left and that's what he's doing right away. He had no head movement last time.

  19. Round 1published at 22:53 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

Joyce is immediately trying to move his feet, especially to his left in order to give Zhang less of a chance to throw his big right.

The Brit is significantly heavier than the first fight remember, but he also has to be quicker on his feet than he was in April. A tough combo to master.

It's a very slow opening round, the two men slowly circling the centre of the ring before Zhang attempts to throw a couple of lefts.

Joyce suffered his eye injury in the first round last time, which ultimately cost him the bout. No surprise he is more circumspect in the rematch.
