Dubois too has plenty - potentially his career - at stake in Saudi after a crushing world-title loss to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk in August.

He was stopped in the ninth round by the Ukrainian, having floored Usyk in the fifth only for the referee to deem the punch a low blow.

"There is so much riding on this for Daniel. This is must-win." Warren says. "He could have won his last fight but something was just lacking at the end and he needs to address that, and this is the fight to do it.

"Whether it's self-belief or what, Daniel has to go out there and impose himself against Jarrell and get himself back to the big table. Otherwise he has a long road back."

Dubois - who has won 19 pro fights, 18 inside the distance - added: "I'm ready to go, let out all of that emotion that I've built up from the Usyk experience and turn it into a positive. Come through this big show with a win.

"I want to punch holes in Jarrell, whatever it takes to win, for me it's important to win in style and put all of that [Usyk loss] behind me."

I find Daniel Dubois hard to read because he always looks a little bit nervous, but I think that's just his demeanour. He's looked confident all week.

A hero's welcome in Saudi for Jarrell Miller, a man who often plays up to being the pantomime villain.

In contrast, there were plenty of boos as Dubois made his entrance.

The atmosphere is not exactly buzzing and the arena far from full but the Saudi crowd love a heavyweight tussle. The few that are in here are making themselves heard the most they can.

  5. Controversial Miller looking to make an impact after banpublished at 19:08 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Dubois v Miller

Jarrell Miller failed a drug test before a scheduled world-title challenge against Anthony Joshua in June 2019 when three banned substances were found in his system.

He was due to fight compatriot Jerry Forrest a year later but once against tested positive for performance enhancing drug GW1516 and was subsequently banned for two years.

Miller - who also failed a test for methylhexaneamine as a kickboxer in 2014 - has insisted he is a clean athlete.

Dubois, 26, says he accepted the fight in a heartbeat. His promoter, Queensberry's Warren, feels bans for boxers who fail drugs tests are "generally not long enough" but had no reservations in agreeing to Miller as an opponent.

"I don't police the sport. That's up to the governing bodies and the various organisations," Warren said.

"The fact of the matter is he has served his ban and he's free to box. It's a bit like if you go to prison, you serve your time and then the slate is supposed to be wiped clean, and that's how we view it," Warren said.

'Big Baby' Miller - now undefeated in 27 fights - returned to the sport after his ban and won his next three bouts.

Warren says all fighters have been tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada) in the build-up to 23 December and Miller posted a letter from Vada on his social media informing him of a negative test.

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn, who promotes Anthony Joshua, once said no credible promoter should ever work Miller again, but has since softened his approach.

"We had our choice words at the news conference," he said. "I like Jarrell but it still doesn't sit right with me. I won't change my mind on that but if he's sorry and he's served his time how can you deny his opportunity?"

  6. Dubois six stone lighter than Millerpublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    Dubois v Miller

American Jarrell Miller and Britain's Daniel Dubois clashed in the head-to-head following their weigh-in.

Nicknamed 'Big Baby', Miller, 35, hit the scales at an astonishing 23st 11lb, significantly heavier than Dubois who weighed 17st 1lb.

With security already poised to intervene, American Miller pushed 26-year-old Dubois in the chest. The aggrieved Londoner tried to get past security as a foul-mouth Miller shouted obscenities towards his upcoming opponent.

"I'm ready to fight. I'll see him in the ring," Dubois said. "I'm not worried about none of that."

Good evening from the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.

Eddie Hearn says this is the most stacked card he has ever worked on. While not all the fights are competitive, there is so much talent on show.

By the end of the night we should find out whether the much-anticipated Anthony Joshua v Deontay Wilder fight will finally happen, or whether the capable Otto Wallin and Joseph Parker can spoil the party.

Jarrell Miller v Daniel Dubois may well just steal the show – it’s the bout most reporters here in Saudi Arabia are looking forward to.

We have a Briton in a world-title shot who has gone massively under the radar - but Lyndon Arthur will have his work cut out against pound-for-pound star and WBA light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

Buckle in. This is going to be fun.

  8. I should be world champion - Duboispublished at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

Daniel Dubois says he should be a heavyweight world champion after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk, with the Ukrainian given almost four minutes to recover following a low blow call from Puerto Rican referee Luis Pabon.

  9. I was cheated out of world title - Duboispublished at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

Briton Daniel Dubois said he felt "cheated out of victory" after his heavyweight world-title challenge ended in defeat by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk on a dramatic night in front of 40,000 boisterous fans in Poland.

Dubois, a huge underdog, floored the champion in a controversial fifth round. With Usyk wincing in pain on the canvas, the referee ruled the shot - which appeared to land on the belt line - a low blow.

Usyk, 36, regained control and dropped Dubois, 25, with a flurry of shots in the eighth round at Tarczynski Arena, Wroclaw, before the referee halted the contest following another knockdown in the ninth.

"I didn't think that was a low blow, I thought it landed," Dubois said after the fight.

His promoter Frank Warren agreed, calling it a "complete home decision" as he criticised referee Luis Pabon.

"I like Usyk, but he was not fit to go on and they gave him a couple of minutes to recover," added Warren.

In fact, Usyk took three minutes and 45 seconds before declaring he was fit to resume - fighters are allowed five minutes when caught with a low blow, although Dubois was not deducted a point by the referee.

Usyk, a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, responded well towards the end of the fifth round and reasserted his dominance in rounds seven and eight as he made a successful second defence of his WBA 'Super', IBF and WBO belts.
