Carlos Sainz's team-mate Alex Albon now goes third quickest but there's still a sizeable gap of a second between the McLarens and the rest.

A few more are on softs including both Ferraris and the Williams of Carlos Sainz, who goes third quickest but he's 1.2s off the McLarens.

George Russell is also on softs now but he aborts a fast lap after a wobble coming out of Turn 9.

There was a sharp intake of breath from the orange fans down here at the final corner when the red flag was waved and a Red Bull looked in trouble. Luckily for the home crowd, it was poor Yuki Tsunoda, and not Max Verstappen who came a cropper. Phew.

The Verstappen grandstand is right next to us, with a decent sized screen to watch the action. Never one to miss a moment, the music was cranked up to 11 as we waited for stricken Yuki, and Kimi Antonelli, to be picked up.

Oscar Piastri has had some bad luck in the past few races and yet he's still there, he's still delivering. Can Lando Norris keep up the same level of consistency himself? That's the question I think heading into the last 10 races.

Hmm, ignore my comment earlier about Max Verstappen on softs. The timing screen did show that but is now showing he's been on mediums throughout.

The McLarens are definitely on softs as Lando Norries goes quickest with 1:10.278.

Oscar Piastri goes two tenths quicker than Max Verstappen to return to the top with 1:11.794.

Max Verstappen has bolted on a set of softs and improves with 1:11.986.

We're edging closer to last year's pole time of 1:09.673s.

Carlos Sainz has a trip into the gravel but skips right across it and back on to the track.

Max Verstappen returned to the top of the order before the red flag with a time of 1:12.101.

George Russell is second quickest, just 0.029 off Verstappen's time while Lando Norris is third quickest.

Everyone is desperate to get back to it and squeeze in as much time on a dry track as possible.

Kimi Antonelli's car is taken away so the session resumes.

The sun is shining at the moment so plenty of fans are just enjoying it and having a chat with their mates.

It could be a different matter for second practice, however, with some rain forecast for the session.

The good thing for Kimi Antonelli is that he managed to avoid hitting the barrier but that is likely to be the end of his session. He just locked up approaching the corner and went off.

Oh what's occurring?

Yuki Tsunoda spins and Kimi Antonelli is off the track and stuck in the gravel.

"I'm stuck in the gravel," he says.

He sure is.

Oh that'll be what it is! Lewis Hamilton spins at Turn 3 but does really well to rescue it and carry on like nothing happened.

The yellow flags are ever so briefly waved for something, but whatever it was, it was resolved in seconds.

A change at the top once more with Fernando Alonso doing a 1:12.577 to go top of the pile.

Lando is riding a high at the moment. He's been the top points scorer in the past few races and he is putting up a really big fight to Oscar. There was a point to the season when it looked like Oscar was going to run away with it. This final part of the season is going to be anyone's game.
