Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri showed the pace of the McLaren by securing a one-two in second practice at the Belgian Grand Prix - with Max Verstappen set for a 10-place grid drop for Sunday's race.

A week on from the intra-team row in Hungary, Norris was the quicker of the two drivers by 0.215 seconds, with reigning world champion Verstappen in third place - all on the soft C4 tyre.

Red Bull's Verstappen has taken his fifth internal combustion engine (ICE) at Spa-Francorchamps - exceeding his allocated number of power units for the season.

The two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were fourth and fifth respectively, but the gap to Norris was more than half a second for Leclerc and 0.838secs for Sainz.

I was expecting a little bit of rain - 40% chance at the beginning of the session - but it hasn't materialised.

I think the fans, who are filling up the grandstands, are probably thankful for that because so many of them camp here in the forest.

And you don't want a soggy tent, do you?

Nico Hulkenberg is the only driver on the hard compounds, he's currently 16th.

Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo has been on his team radio to say "something feels strange", oh dear. He's now back in the RB garage.

  10. What is Circuit Spa-Francorchamps like?published at 16:54 British Summer Time 26 July

    spa trackImage source, Getty Images

Spa is a favourite track among Formula 1 drivers for its mix of long straights and high-speed corners.

Located close to the Fagnes mountains, the picturesque circuit has 19 corners and is the longest on the F1 calendar at 7.004km, with the lap record of one minute 46.286 seconds held by Valtteri Bottas since 2018.

The most famous section of the track comes at the beginning of the lap. Once drivers have navigated the La Source hairpin, they then head flat out down to Eau Rouge before being launched uphill through Raidillon.

Championship leader Max Verstappen has won the past three Belgian Grands Prix, while seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher holds the record for the most victories at Spa with six.

  14. 'Not a happy camp at Aston Martin'published at 16:42 British Summer Time 26 July

It doesn't seem like a very happy camp at Aston Martin.

They've only scored points in two of the last four races and even then it's only 11 points.

They're nowhere near where they were last year in the championship.

It's a bit tricky because they came in at the start of last season with six podiums in the first eight races - Fernando Alonso was absolutely flying and no-one could quite believe it.

This season, they're nowhere really. It's not the team we were expecting and there's a bit of speculation about the future of their team principal Mike Krack.

So much of this track has been resurfaced coming into this weekend, there's going to be a lot of learning.

I know Mercedes are hoping for cooler conditions but their performance director Andrew Shovlin said to me the conditions come second to how this tarmac behaves.

It'll be interesting to see what the drivers have to say after FP2, when they talk to the media.
