Donegal immediately respond with a point through Conor O'Donnell...and then Daire O Baoill charges through and fires low into Neil McNicholl's net!

What a response from the champions. They lead by seven. 1-4 for O Baoill already.

This is what we've been talking about all first half. Donegal are open at the back when you run at them in twos and threes off the shoulder.

  3. goal

Goalpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-11 Derry 1-5

    What a moment!

Derry find space in behind and Dan Higgins marks his championship debut with a goal, putting his shot through Shaun Patton's legs!

  4. Donegal lead by sixpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-11 Derry 0-5

Just like that, Donegal have a six-point lead after a Patrick McBrearty free and O Baoill's second two-pointer.

They (Derry) are slowing the kick-out down, playing into the breeze, but the problem is there is no movement.

  6. New rules enforcedpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-8 Derry 0-5

A Shane McGuigan free - after Hugh McFadden touches the ball on the ground - briefly brings Derry level but Peadar Mogan swiftly restores Donegal's slender margin.

And in an example of the new rules, Brendan Cawley brings a Derry free all the way up the field after Daire O Baoill fails to hand the ball back for the free.

Seems a harsh penalty for such a minor infringement, but this is where we're at.

McGuigan knocks over the free, but moments later, O Baoill swings over a two-pointer. That would have been just the one point last year!

And after Brendan Rogers interferes with a Donegal tap and go, Cawley brings another free forward and Michael Murphy is able to tap over his first championship point in three years.

  7. Derry chasing goalspublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 6 April

Derry are clearly chasing goals here in Ballybofey rather than taking their point. But unfortunately for the Oak Leafers, the gamble of going for the major hasn't paid off so far.

We mentioned at the start of the game that Donegal's bench was strong and they made those changes offensively, but defensively they have been poor when facing the ball.

  9. Postpublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-4 Derry 0-3

Lovely point from Niall Toner brings Derry back to within one.

A few minutes before that, Donegal nearly had a goal when Neil McNicholl - seemingly unsighted by the sun - spilled Michael Murphy's shot. Derry managed to scramble clear and McNicholl asked for a cap to shield his eyes.

  10. Watch: Patton denies McGuiganpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 6 April

Shane McGuigan had two bites at it but still couldn't get past Shaun Patton.

Conor Doherty somehow manages to wade his way through a sea of Donegal bodies. He loses control of the ball and still manages to poke the ball towards goal, but it goes wide.

    Another let-off for Donegal.

  12. Postpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-4 Derry 0-2

    Donegal lead by two.

Shane O'Donnell kicks over the bar to make it 0-3 to 0-1, and while Lachlan Murray brings Derry back to within, Ciaran Moore whips over a lovely score.

    Good start to this one.

Derry are causing hassle when they run off the shoulder and be direct.

Donegal need to get Murphy on the ball a little bit more. I think he's only touched it once around the middle.

The penalty he seemed to scuff the top of the ball, but the rebound fell to his (Shane McGuigan's) right foot. He just had to hit and it's going into the goal, but Patton does excellent.

  15. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-2 Derry 0-1

Incredible! Shaun Patton saves Shane McGuigan's low drive from the penalty and gets up to smother the rebound too!

    Huge moment 10 minutes in.

Patton injured his shoulder in the process. We'll keep an eye on that.

That's one of those moments where the energy can change in a game. It could have been with Derry, but let's see what happens now.

Derry have a penalty after Shane McGuigan is felled by Hugh McFadden!

  18. Postpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-2 Derry 0-1

Ethan Doherty clatters the post with a shot after Derry turn the ball over.

And in the blink of an eye, Conor O'Donnell and Ryan McHugh edge Donegal ahead.

McHugh found himself in space in behind Derry's full-back line and could have gone for goal, but chose the point.

When Patton goes for the long kick-out, you see Rogers sweeping in behind to get on the ball.

Derry are slowing down the game, keeping momentum which is going to be key for them.

  20. Postpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 6 April

    Donegal 0-0 Derry 0-1

Derry seeing plenty of the ball early doors and the opening score of this year's Ulster series is scored by Padraig McGrogan. Good to see the Newbridge man back in championship action after his ACL injury last year.

Padraig Cassidy's shot a minute later, however, goes wide.
