Linfield boss David Healy said he was frustrated with his side's inability to "capitalise on key moments" as they suffered a 2-1 aggregate defeat by Shelbourne and exited the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Blues trailed 1-0 from the first leg and had a further mountain to climb when Allistair Coote fired Shels ahead in the second leg at Windsor Park.

Chris Shields scored a penalty before half-time to get Linfield back in the tie, but Ben Hall's sending off killed their hopes of a comeback in the second half.

Healy was left to rue missed chances from the likes of Matthew Fitzpatrick and Callum Morrison when the game was still in the balance.

"I'm disappointed, I was proud of the players effort, I thought we were good in spells, but key moments and small details are why we lost the tie," he told BBC Sport.

"We had a big chance when it was 0-0, we had a big chance when it was 1-1 in the second half and those key moments we didn't capitalise on.

"I don't think Shelbourne looked as threatening as the first leg. We built on the performance last week, but I said to the players you don't want to be the nearly team, I hate that and it's my initial frustration with where we are at because we put so much into the game."

The Blues now drop into the Uefa Conference League and will face Lithuanian side Zalgris next week.

Ten-man Cliftonville had to settle for a 2-2 draw with St Joseph's at the Europa Point Stadium despite leading twice in the first leg of their Conference League qualifier last Tuesday.

Ryan Curran's headed goal after 39 minutes gave Cliftonville the lead at the break but, 10 minutes after the restart, the away side were reduced to 10 men when Jack Keaney was shown a red card and Alvaro Rey converted the resulting spot-kick.

Jonny Addis put the Reds ahead again from the spot with 12 minutes to go, but Rey levelled the game for a second time just five minutes later to leave it still all to play for in the second leg.

It was a better evening for Larne, who beat Latvian side FK Auda 4-2 on penalties in the Conference League to go through to the next round.

After a goalless draw in the first leg at the Ballymena Showgrounds, Larne twice fought back from behind to draw 2-2 after extra time at Stadions Skonto.

Larne were perfect with their penalties as Chris Gallagher, Paul O'Neill, Dan Bent and Tiernan O'Connor all scored their spot kicks.

Rohan Ferguson saved Kemehlo Nguena's penalty and Ousmane Camara missed his spot kick as Larne went through.

Nathan Rooney's side will face FC Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova or FC Prishtina of Kosovo in the second qualifying round later this month.

Wednesday night was a mixed evening for other Irish Premiership sides in European action.

Starting with Irish Premiership champions Linfield, who drew 1-1 with Premier Division champions Shelbourne at Windsor Park in the second leg of their Champions League first round qualifying tie.

That result was not enough to keep them in the competition however, as they went out 2-1 on aggregate.

They will now face Latvian side Zalgris in the Uefa Conference League second qualifying round whilst Shels will come up against Qarabag.

Cliftonville have been dealt a blow ahead of the second leg with promising right back Shea Kearney departing to join Scottish Championship team Dunfermline Athletic.

The 21-year-old Northern Ireland youth international has signed a three-year contract.

The move will see Kearney link up with former Northern Ireland captain Neil Lennon, who is manager at East End Park.

Kearney, who was under contract with Cliftonville until 2027, said he was "really excited about the move".

"It is my first time going full-time football, and it would be good playing in front of big crowds every week," said Kearney, external.

"It will also be a good experience under the manager to try and lift my game.

"I want to try to improve myself and improve the team as well, hopefully go on to get promoted and go back up to the top flight."

The full-back has played a key role for Jim Magilton's side as the Reds won the BetMcLean Cup final and Kearney also scored a superb last-minute equaliser in the Irish Cup final, however Dungannon Swifts lifted the trophy on penalties.

His final Cliftonville appearance came in the club's 2-2 draw in Gibraltar against St Joseph's in the first round of Uefa Conference League qualifying.

Jim Magilton makes two enforced changes from last week's first leg.

Jack Keaney is suspended after his red card and Shea Kearney has moved on to Dunfermline.

In their place come Shaun Leppard and Michael Glynn.

Sean Stewart, who came off the bench in Gibraltar, is also missing from the squad as he is set to seal his own move away.

St Joseph's named an unchanged side, with Alvaro Rey one to watch after he netted both goals for Abraham Paz's side last week.

Good evening and welcome to our live text commentary of tonight's Conference League first qualifying round second leg between Cliftonville and St Joseph's.

It is as you were in the tie after a chaotic 2-2 draw in the sweltering Gibraltar heat last week.

Cliftonville will hope to get the job done on home soil especially with a sell-out crowd of Reds fans expected to cheer them on at Solitude.

They will be wary though given the threat St Joseph's posed last week and the fact they knocked Larne out of the competition in 2022.
