Before Kylie took to the stage, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex was given a chance to address the crowd. This is what he said: "I call on all the athletes from the countries and territories of the Commonwealth to come together in Gold Coast, Queensland to celebrate the 21st Commonwealth Games in four years' time.

"Until then, I proclaim the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games closed."

Kemar Bailey-Cole came arrowing through the centre of the field from the halfway point to win the showpiece event, the men's 100m. A clear winner, but the eye was drawn to the battle behind him where a stooping Adam Gemili snatched second for England as a perfect response to Michael Johnson's criticism from the previous day.

"My coach told me just to hack it to the back, to resort to old-fashioned caveman squash, and that's what I did," said Matthew, while thumping his hands against his chest and eating a raw piece of meat.

    Cate and Bronte Campbell

With all of this talk of Australia, let's highlight two of their best performers - and they came from the same family.

Cate and Bronte Campbell won eight medals between them, with Cate collecting three golds, one more than sister Bronte.

In the women's 100m freestyle final on Monday, Cate won gold and Bronte claimed silver. But there was no animosity or jealousy.

Instead the siblings were screaming in celebration together and holding hands at the end. Definitely one for the Campbell family album.

Laura Weightman won silver in the 1500m, and her mum told BBC Radio 5 live her athlete daughter is more than a bit partial to battered sausage and chips.

Lynsey Sharp's silver in the 800m was one of the most emotional moments of the games, and she revealed how surgery, plus sickness the night before the final were not going to stop her.

  20. Everyone loves the Gold Coastpublished at 21:52 British Summer Time 3 August 2014

The tourist board for the Gold Coast must be loving what is going on at the moment. A host of residents have appeared, one by one, saying how much they love their home.

The line that gets me is 'they have 300 days of sunshine'. That's just showing off. Glasgow had about three sunny days during the event.
