    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

England's Ben Watson has gone, and Guernsey's Sam Culverwell has joined him.

What a cracking move, England using their numerical advantage, they have covered everything and this one, at last, with 6km to go, looks to have been successful. Now they have to see it home.

Both are committed to this move, surely it will be enough.

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman

It is looking more and more that this could come down to a sprint. If that happens I am not sure who would fair best. Perhaps New Zealand's Aaron Gate, who is a great track sprinter.

'Thomas needs to start turning defensive moves into offensive ones'published at 15:36 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

I think the fatigue after three hours of racing is beginning to set in. They are not able to sustain attacks with tired legs now.

But now here is a strong attack from Fred Wright. Geraint Thomas is trying to drag this back but he is having to expend all his energy in defensive moves.

The Welshman needs to start turning these defensive moves into offensive ones.

England have three riders and are using them really well, spreading their attacks between them, while Thomas is doing it all on his own.

Reese Lynch cups his hands to his ears as some boos go around the NEC.

Some of the crowd thought that fight should have gone to Louis Carno Richards, who landed a big right hand to the face of Lynch right of the death after a good third round.

The judges disagree, though. And Lynch becomes Scotland's third boxing gold medallist of the day.

Scotland’s Reese Lynch has just done enough to hold on.

The 21-year-old takes gold on split decision against Mauritius’ Louis Richarno Colin, who picks up silver in his fifth Commonwealth Games.

Colin forced a standing count for Lynch in that final round after the Scot sustained a cut to his right eye.

Lynch follows Sam Hickey and Sean Lazzerini's gold-medal success.
