Malawi goal rushpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    England 41-28 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

Malawi have outscored England 8-6 in this third quarter so far.

There were a lot of half-time changes for the Roses, which might have something to do with it.

Malawi are finding their form too.

England's pace slowspublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    England 41-24 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

England's starting netball seven seemed marginally stronger than the side that's on the court now.

Centre Laura Malcolm's passes to goal attack Helen Housby in the shooting circle aren't quite as fluid as Jade Clarke's were to Eleanor Cardwell.

Still, England have a 41-24 lead so it's going pretty well.

    Brum Beach Crew

The inter-set changeover entertainment is the Brum Beach Crew.

A thai-dyed collective of dancers, who groove on down to Duran Duran's Rio as Javier and Joaquin Bello chalk up the first set for England.

But Tuvalu's Ampex Isaac has earned plenty of love from the stands with his delicate drop-shot after feinting for the full-fisted spike at the net.

  4. netball

Housby replaces Cardwell for second halfpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    England 36-20 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

Eleanor Cardwell put in a very impressive first-half showing in her first Commonwealth Games start, but she's been hooked for the second half.

Helen Housby resumes her place at goal attack.

Jade Clarke is back on at wing defence and Stacey Francis-Bayman - who also had an impressive first half - has moved back to goal defence.

The netball has taken on pop concert vibes at half-time.

Ed Sheeran blares out and a few fans have got their torches out on their phones.

    England 13-8 Tuvalu

    Mike Henson
    BBC Sport at Smithfield

    Smithfield

The approach to the Smithfield venue seems to take inspiration from Fyre Festival. It is a mood board of rubble, generators and portacabins, punctuated by the odd neon flag.

But the beach volleyball arena is a cosy little venue.

English twins Javier and Joaquin Bello are first on court. The 22-year-old twins, whose father played volleyball professionally, were born in Madrid before moving to England when they were 10. They now train in Wandsworth on sand that was used for the beach volleyball venue at London 2012.

After the pre-match Pacific print dancers and pyro, they have made a good start against Tuvalu. They lead 13-8.

We talk about the benefits of players playing for the same club week in and week out, and when you have Laura Malcolm and Natalie Metcalf for Thunder… they know where each other want to go, they know how to create the space in that end third.

  8. Boxer Samed suspended after positive testpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

Ghanaian boxer Shakul Samed has been suspended from the Commonwealth Games after testing positive for a banned substance at the competition in Birmingham.

Samed's A sample was found to contain the banned diuretic and masking agent Furosemide, the Commonwealth Games Federation said in a statement.

The light-heavyweight boxer was scheduled to face Luc Jean Rosalba on Friday but did not show up for the weigh-in.

Samed, who competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is the first athlete to fail a drug test at the Birmingham Games, which began on Friday.

  9. Adam Peaty and Mist get grilledpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

Anyone fancy seeing a bit of a rap from Adam Peaty and Mist drawing a DeLorean coupe?

    Here you go.

England lead at half-timepublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    HT: England 35-20 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

It's all good for defending champions England at the netball.

They lead Malawi 35-20 at half-time. Can they better yesterday's goal tally of 74 against Trinidad and Tobago?

Shooters Eleanor Cardwell and Jo Harten are giving it a good go.

Cardwell and Harten a dynamic duopublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    England 32-17 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

England's Eleanor Cardwell and Jo Harten are combining much better in the shooting circle than Harten and Housby did yesterday.

Housby was the star on the Gold Coast four years ago, but maybe this is the beginning of Cardwell stepping into the spotlight for this one.

England have a commanding 32-17 lead and coach Jess Thirlby decides to mix things up.

Jade Clarke comes off and Wolverhampton's Laura Malcolm gets a big cheer as she comes on to replace the centre.

OK, the England fans have woken up. They can't let Malawi have all the fun.

Has someone brought a drum in? They provide the beat, the rest of the fans deliver on a big shout of 'England!'.

On the court, Malawi are beginning to keep pace after falling behind in the first quarter.

    England 24-11 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

There is a small contingent of Malawi netball fans up at the back of the NEC stands.

They're making sure their team hears them with some excellent chanting, although it is drowned out every time England score a goal.

Eleanor Cardwell has started as she means to go on.

The goal attack - making her first Commonwealths start today - sinks a long-range shot to kick off England's second quarter against Malawi at the netball.

It's incredible for Scotland's men. If you want a barometer of how far you have come then why not take on the Olympic champions [Fiji].

Their journey so far has been remarkable and they will certainly be up for it. It's a hit to nothing - all the pressure and expectation will be on Fiji. Wales showed they can really get at this Fiji side in the second half when they tire.

  19. netball

Francis-Bayman stars in first quarterpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

    England 19-9 Malawi

    Becky Grey
    BBC Sport at NEC Arena

Stacey Francis-Bayman missed out on England's historic netball gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

She was taking a break from the sport at the time, but it only seems to have fuelled her fire for the 2022 edition.

The Birmingham-born wing defence is absolutely everywhere and sprints off court in an attempt to keep a loose ball in.

She fails on this occasion but Francis-Bayman has been England's key defensive weapon in this first quarter. They lead 19-9 at the end of the first 15 minutes.

  20. bowls

Bowls round-uppublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 30 July 2022

Plenty of joy for the home nations in the morning session at the bowls.

In the men's triple section there were wins for England, Scotland and Wales.

In the women's singles athletes from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Guernsey have all tasted victory.

There were also wins for Scotland and England in the men's para B6-B8 pairs with Scotland also victorious in the women's event.
