A fantastic ride from Scotland's John Archibald in the scratch race - he was one of three riders who lapped the field and then finished second in the mad dash for the line.

Excellent race from Scotland's John Archibald, who finishes behind New Zealand's Corbin Strong to take silver.

The 31-year-old won a silver in the pursuit four years ago and, after a disappointing seventh in that race in Birmingham, adds another now in the scratch race.

Wales earn another medal - this time a bronze for Will Roberts - in the velodrome.

Sir Chris Hoy has spoken about the drama in the men's sprint bronze final, after officials struggled to decide if Scotland's Jack Carlin was impeded by Matt Glaetzer.

The 46-year-old said: "I’m Scottish and a Jack supporter of course, but you have to say that the fastest rider won that race.

"The only question is, did it impact as Glaetzer went past? I think initially he was trying to defend himself and prevent Jack swooping up the track and blocking him. Jack didn’t, Jack held his line.

"But Glaetzer was just a little bit ham-fisted and hit him. If he just had literally two inches higher, he would've breezed past Jack and it would’ve been fine. But knocking Jack, it could’ve affected the result."

During the warm-up, swimmers of all nationalites and standards share use of the pool and lanes.

Which means having to overtake and keep an eye out for oncoming aquatic traffic.

Yet to see some of the passive-aggressive side-by-side whole-length action that I have witnessed in the public waters though.

The action gets under way for real at 19:00 BST.

South African swimming star Chad le Clos is also on course to make Commonwealth Games history tonight.

Le Clos, the defending champion in the men's 200m butterfly, qualified second-quickest for the evening final behind New Zealand's 400m individual medley champion Lewis Clareburt, who timed 1min 56.76sec.

The 30-year-old South African has won 17 medals across three Commonwealth Games and has the chance to add to his collection and move level with shooters Michael Gault and Phil Adams, who jointly hold the all-time record of 18.

Le Clos reached the final 10 years to the day since he beat American great Michael Phelps at London 2012 to become Olympic champion. "It's spooky," he said.

"It's a monumental day for me absolutely but you know what, I've taken the emotion out of today because it's different. "It's the same country, same day, same hour, same lane but at the end of the day, I've just got to be composed tonight, execute, have a game plan."

Australia's Emma McKeon will go for a record 11th Commonwealth gold in this evening's women's 50m freestyle final but will face a fierce challenge from compatriot Shayna Jack.

McKeon, who already has two relay golds in Birmingham, is currently level on 10 golds with fellow swimmers Ian Thorpe, Susie O'Neill and Leisel Jones.

Other finals taking place on Sunday evening are the women's 100m backstroke and the women's 4x200m freestyle relay.

Drew Marley, 8, has come along from Loughborough with mum Helen and mum's friend Ros Brett.

Drew doesn't need asking who she is here to see.

"Adam Peaty!," she shouts.

They go way back. Peaty came to Drew's school to open an activity trail in 2017 and she has been a big fan ever since.

Drew swims at Loughborough Town swimming club where she trains alongside the daughter of two-time Commonwealth gold medallist Ross Davenport.

This evening's action in the pool gets under way just after seven with eight gold medals up for grabs.

Adam Peaty goes for his first medal of these Commonwealth Games in the men's 100m breaststroke final at 20:51. The Olympic champion and world record holder is looking to secure a hat-trick of Commonwealth titles in this event.

Scotland's Duncan Scott is going for a record-equalling 10th Commonwealth medal in the men's 200m butterfly final [19:38].

If he gets it, he will become Scotland’s joint most successful athlete at the Commonwealth Games, alongside rifle shooter Alister Allan.

It'll be fifth place for England's women at this year's Commonwealth Games and sixth for Scotland as Grace Crompton bagged two tries to secure a 29-5 victory for the hosts.

Next up, England's men take on Uganda in the play-off for ninth.

Six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy believes the incident that led to England's Matt Walls being catapulted over the barriers and into the crowds at the Lee Valley VeloPark was preventable.

Speaking on BBC TV, Hoy said: "This was a direct result of not having some form of barrier at the top of the fencing. It might seem strange that there is nothing to stop riders going over the fence. It’s very rare for it to happen but it has over the years, maybe half a dozen times over 20 years.

"Personally I think it’s preventable if you put a Perspex screen around like they do in ice hockey. Look at motorsport and its catch fencing and the lengths they go to protect the crowd and also the athletes.

"I didn’t want to see the video, I have seen a shot of it, and it was horrendous to see but on the whole it’s a very safe sport.

"All you can do is learn from mistakes and think how can we make the velodrome safer for athletes and spectators?

"I hope the people in power look at this and think something really has to be done before something genuinely serious happens in the future."

Earlier in the day, defending Commonwealth champion James Willstrop booked his quarter-final berth with a 11-6 11-4 11-7 win against Nasir Iqbal of Pakistan.

What does Sir Chris Hoy reckon about the Carlin-Glaetzer drama?

The Scot starts by saying the quickest rider won but then ends by adding there was enough to contact for Carlin to be impeded.

In short, it's a tough one to call.

Turns out Matt Glaetzer makes contact with Jack Carlin and forces the Scot to wobble.

Carlin hasn't been protesting too much himself by all accounts, but the officials are looking at this through a slo-mo lens.

The debate has been going on for a loooong time and we're still waiting to hear if the result stands.

Over in the rugby sevens, England's women are taking on Scotland in the play-off for fifth place. England are leading currently but have already missed the chance to better their bronze medal from the Gold Coast four years ago.

Later, New Zealand will take on Canada for the bronze medal and Australia face Fiji for the gold.

England's Georgina Kennedy books her spot into the quarter-finals by beating Canada's Nicole Bunyan comfortably, 11-3 11-1 11-3.

The Harvard graduate actually left the sport for a short while during university:

"When all my friends were at uni looking like they were living their best lives, I definitely had doubts - but now I'm really invested.”

Ach, that's such a shame for Jack Carlin. He knew he'd moved out of the sprinter's line and got in the way of Matt Glaetzer unfairly.

He was disappointed with silver in the keirin, so this won't be an easy result to take.
