Everyone in the crowd at the gymnastics has been given LED wristbands.

As we wait for the first final to begin, the lights go down and the wristbands start glowing different colours.

Not the first sport I've been to here that's had heavy pop concert vibes.

Jamaica's Natalliah Whyte takes first place in the penultimate heat of the women's 100m qualifying, after defending champion Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidand & Tobago eased clear in heat five.

Wales' Hannah Brier still holds a fastest loser place heading into the seventh and final heat...

The heptathletes will need to rest up as they have the shot put and 200m still to come this evening.

The shot put starts at 19:15 BST, with the 200m at 21:25 before the final three events take place tomorrow.

South Africa end the powerplay on 39-0. England can now spread the field as they look to defend their big total.

South Africa need 129 more runs to win off 14 overs.

One to watch in the heptathlon: Northern Ireland's Kate O'Connor.

She's just 21 but is already by some distance the most accomplished heptathlete Northern Ireland, and indeed the entire island of Ireland, has ever produced.

She was the first Irish heptathlete to break the 6,000 points barrier, and last year broke her own national record with a total of 6,297.

She's fourth after two events, hot on the heels of Holly Mills and right in the mix early on.

She's a better high jumper than this, it has to be said.

Holly Mills will be watching on thinking her chances have just improved.

KJT will be frustrated.

Not to be for Katarina Johnson-Thompson. The reigning heptathlon champion can't crack 1.87m.

She goes to the top of the standings after two events with those points, but she would have hoped for better than that.

It leaves the competition wide open, with KJT (2032 points) leading Taneille Crase (2015) and Holly Mills (2000).

England have won seven golds, two silvers and a bronze in the artistic gymnastics at these Games so far and there could be even more today.

There are five gold medals to be won between 13:00 and 17:00 BST.

First up, Jake Jarman will bid for a fourth gold at Birmingham in the men's vault final. England's Giarnni Regini-Moran will be in that one too along with Wales' Emil Barber and Norther Ireland's Ewan McAteer.

South Africa find themselves a bit behind England after four overs. At this stage England were 36-1.

But Anneke Bosch (14 off 10) and Tazmin Brits (11 from 14) are building a nice platform for the batting side.

The South Africans need another 141 runs from 96 balls.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson is on to 1.87m now, but she can't add to her points tally just yet as she falls short on her first two attempts.

The Alexander Stadium will get right behind her again as she goes for her third jump.

It is a clean sweep for England in the bronze-medal play-off between England and Nigeria.

Tom Jarvis &and Paul Drinkhall got the ball rolling with an 11-6 11-7 11-7 win in the doubles over Bode Abiodun and Olajide Omotayo

Liam Pitchford beat Quadri Aruna 11-9 9-11 12-10 11-6 before Drinkhall returned to deliver the final blow against Omotayo with a comfortable 11-4 11-2 11-4 win to take the bronze.

Wales' Hannah Brier finishes fourth in heat four with a time of 11.48 seconds, which leaves her as the second-fastest among the three available places outside the automatic qualification spots.

Three more heats to go for her to hold on...

Nigeria's Rosemary Chukwuma matches Daryll Neita's time of 11.02 in the previous heat to take the win.

Oh that's much better, a super jump!

A smile is finally across the face of KJT!

She got her speed and is looking like her old self again.

She can now take her time.

A beaming smile on the face of Katarina Johnson-Thompson!

The defending champion flies over on her first attempt at 1.84m and she'll have the chance to really assert herself in this heptathlon competition now as the only athlete remaining.

Australia have been absolutely dominant over Wales in Pool A, going into half-time 42-18 up.

Can anyone stop the top seeds in this tournament who come into this match boasting a goal difference of +155 from their first three games?

It needed more vertical as it was rather flat but she's done what she needed to do.

Decent start from Daryll Neita, just look at her stretching away!

That looked very comfortable from her and very smooth.

Once she get's into her top flight speed she's very powerful and there was no real urgency because she knew she was the quality in this field.

The pressure is on now. One last chance to add extra points to her tally.
