    Caster SemenyaImage source, .

A two-time Olympic champion. A three-time world champion. The Commonwealth defending champion.

What would Caster Semenya’s presence in a stacked 800m field, featuring England’s Keely Hodgkinson, Scotland’s Laura Muir, Kenya’s Mary Moraa and Jamaica’s Natoya Goule, do for interest around the Games?

We will never know. The 31-year-old South African has been banned from the event on account of her naturally testosterone-high physiology.

Semenya, unable to run events between 400m and 1500m inclusive on the track, was last seen finishing 13th in a 5000m heat at last month’s World Championships.

Howell's story is one of overcoming incredible odds given she's had terrible luck with injuries and had 10 major operations.

She added: "A big part of my story is the 10 operations and the ups and the downs and that [winning silver] makes it all worth it."
