    Women's pole vault final

The women's pole vault final is the first of six finals in tonight's athletics action and, as we've just heard, unfortunately England's Olympic bronze medallist Holly Bradshaw won't be taking part.

Bradshaw has endured a tough year to get here having had glandular fever and a partial hamstring tear before a snapped pole ended her World Championship hopes last month and withdrew during the warm up a few minutes ago because of injury.

Her absence means England have two people in this final - Molly Caudery and Sophie Cook - while Ellie McCartney is competing for Northern Ireland.

Australia’s national record holder Nina Kennedy, who won a bronze at the Worlds in Oregon and reigning Commonwealth champion Alysha Newman of Canada will be firmly in the mix for medals.

Time for some swimming action then and it could be a South African 1-2 in our first race tonight with Lara van Niekerk and Tatjana Schoenmaker flying in their semi-finals.

Schoenmaker is the reigning champ and Olympic silver medallist at this distance while 19-year-old Van Niekerk won gold at 50m here in Birmingham. Molly Renshaw flies the flag for England and Kara Hanlon goes for the Scots.

Not a bad night for England, all told.

This is the first time I've seen Birmingham 2022 mascot Perry the bull down at the pool.

The crowd loves him wherever he goes and his merchandise has been flying.

One of the announcers, former swimmer Michael Gunning, has challenged Perry to a race. Gunning's swimming down the pool as Perry runs round the edge.

Team Jamaica are in the house.

They are on a work trip led by Katherina Pessoa, far left, with her colleagues from a remittance service that sends money between Birmingham and Jamaica.

They are looking forward to catching Olympic champion Hansle Parchment in 110m hurdles heats. He lines up against England's Andrew Pozzi at 20:05 BST.

You would have to have a heart of stone not to be badly feeling for Eoin Fleming right now. There's standing ovation for him at Coventry Arena.

He has clearly very badly hurt his ankle, and as his bronze medal match went into Golden Score he could barely stand let alone fight.

The crowd got right behind him throughout. This is a guy who lost at this stage eight years ago and has carried the pain since - he wasn't going to give in easily.

It was a herculean effort but in the end he just could not continue as Uros Nikolic of Australia takes bronze.

    Women's singles semi-finals

She's done it! Georgina Kennedy has beaten fellow Englishwoman Sarah-Jane Perry 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 14-12 to reach the women's squash singles final.

She was made to work for the final game but gets over the line against Perry, a silver medallist at the 2018 games.

Kennedy will face Guyana's Mary Fung-a-Fat in the gold medal match tomorrow. Pakistan's Amna Fayaz awaits Perry in the bronze medal tie.

    Men's (Bantamweight) Round of 16

There's a busy programme of boxing under way at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre.

Good start for Wales as Owain Harris-Allan goes through against Phomolo Lengola of Lesotho.

Harris-Allan, 18, looked composed throughout the three-round contest and increased his intensity as the bout progressed.

The Cardiff teenager began boxing aged seven, when his mum introduced him to his local gym. Definitely one to watch.

England's Holly Bradshaw, who won Olympic bronze last summer, has had to pull out of tonight's pole vault final.

The 30-year-old, who hurt her hamstring, glute and wrist when her pole snapped in a freak accident at the World Championships last month, has taken a few practice vaults and can't bring her best to the party, despite a switch of run-up.

Helen Housby has six goals from six attempts, while Eleanor Cardwell is 19 from 20.

Imogen Allison has come on in the place of Stacey Francis-Bayman at WD for the Roses, while Loughborough Lightning's Mary Cholhok has replaced Peace Proscovia at GS for Uganda.

After a couple of near misses on Tuesday, that's Scotland up to 25 medals but this is only their third gold.

And what a backstory it comes with. Garry Brown was only rushed down to Leamington Spa the week the event started after Garry Hood was expelled for making comments about Rishi Sunak on Facebook.

But he and Kevin Wallace have been peerless since the very first bowl on Friday and have clinched a richly-deserved gold. Wonder what Hood is thinking..?

Is Adam Peaty back on song?

It's as busy as you like in the pool tonight with 10 medal races getting under way just after 19:00 BST, including a chance at a return to the top step for the great man himself, Adam Peaty.

Peaty qualified second fastest for the men's 50m breaststroke final (20:21 BST), as he seeks to make amends after finishing out of the medals over 100m on Sunday.

Australia will no doubt win another truckload of golds before a classic finale, the mixed 4x100m medley relay, which should be entertaining, madcap, and possibly a very close contest between England and Australia.

We'll bring you all the action, naturally.

Imagine winning a Commonwealth gold medal as a local lad... stuff of dreams.

Can Lachlan Moorhead join his compatriot on the top step? We'll have to wait for the very last contest to find out.

Before that, can NI's Eoin Fleming banish the ghosts of 2014?
