What an athlete. What an entertainer. What a star.

    Emily Campbell, ladies and gentlemen.

After winning two European golds, World bronze and Olympic silver, she must make room on the mantelpiece for a Commonwealth gold.

    Stunning performance.

    Women's +87kg

England's Emily Campbell is already assured of Commonwealth gold, but still she wants more.

A surefire sign of a born champion.

Campbell wants 162kg and a new career-best, to be precise.

The crowd is so emotionally invested in this, there is a mutual rapport between Campbell and the NEC.

Here she goes.... the first lift is brutish, the first roar is passionate. Silence falls.

Can she complete the second? Of course she can!

The crowds erupts in a frenzy as does a jubilant Campbell.

    "COME ON BIRMINGHAM!" she roars.

Ghana holding Walespublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 3 August 2022

    Wales 0-0 Ghana

Wales were nearly caught out in the opening minutes of the first quarter, as Ghana staged a high press attack and left the Welsh defence wide open.

But the closest chance of opening the score line came from the home nation, who were denied brilliantly by goalkeeper Duisberg Offei's foot.

Ghana are really going for this and making Wales work for it.

That second game was much better quality from Perry, there wasn't much in it. She actually took a lead midway through that second game but King responded well.

I think there is still more to come from Perry, it will be interesting to see if King can maintain this momentum.

Nice moment on game point as the players wait for a video review, with them putting their arms around each other as they watch the big screen.

It's a bit uphill battle for Sarah-Jane Perry now if she's to get that bronze medal around her neck. Joelle King just needs to win one more game and she'll have her seventh Commonwealth medal.

For the rugby fans among you, you may know King's brother. Regan King played rugby union for the All Blacks before playing nearly 10 years for the Scarlets in Wales.

Another review from Sarah-Jane Perry but, with the players watching on, the replay shows she didn't beat the second bounce.

    What a performance!

Emily Campbell is the calmest person in the NEC.

After lifting 157kg in the clean and jerk - a new Games record - she seals gold when Stowers fails in her second attempt at 154kg.

But the show ain't over yet...

Eight kilos separate Samoa's Feagaiga Stowers from the gold-medal weight which Emily Campbell currently has down on the sheet.

Stowers grimaces as he goes for 154kg... nope.

One more chance... if she can't lift this then it is definitely over for her.

    No!

    Women's bronze medal match

Sarah-Jane Perry gives Joelle King a pat on the back after a superb shot from the New Zealander catches her out.

A frustrated Perry then protests a decision after she crosses paths with King and is perceived to have caught her racquet, but the verdict is upheld and her opponent reaches 8-8.

Big couple of points coming up for the home player now...

I was at the swimming last night and Emily Campbell is getting at least as much noise at the NEC as Adam Peaty got over at Sandwell.

    They love her!

There is absolutely no question how good a lift that was - that was awesome.

Feagaiga Stowers goes first as she attempts 147kg... a bit of a wobble but she gets there.

Over to Emily Campbell then... she's got 152kg loaded onto the bar.

Easy! Or at least she makes it look easy.

England's Campbell has one hand on the gold medal!

Ouch! She can't barely get it off the ground before dropping it back to the mat.

Pandey clutches her back as her hopes of a medal disappear.

Next up is Australia's Charisma Amoe Tarrant, who roars as she lines up 139kg - an increase of 12kg.

She's done it! That guarantees a medal and no wonder the Gold Coast silver medallist does a little bop as she walks off.

Joelle King was quick to return to court after a swig of her drink at the end of the first game, while England's Sarah-Jane Perry took that little extra time.

Perry looks to be getting a little frustrated and she's asked to watch her language on court. "I said 'what the flip?'," she replies.

The start of this match was always going to be about who could handle the nerves and recover from the disappointment of yesterday and it is safe to say Joelle King has done that better so far. The story of that first game was the unforced errors from Sarah-Jane Perry.
