Dennis holding lead over Thomaspublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Men's time trial

Rohan Dennis is now 43 seconds up on England's Fred Wright at the second check point as he eyes top spot.

Here comes Geraint Thomas. The deficit remains at around half a minute, so despite appearing to have a problem with his bike he's not losing time to Dennis.

Still, a lot of work to do to reduce the Australian's advantage.

  2. Walsh gets a medal for Northern Irelandpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Boxing quarter-finals

Just as his sister Michaela did earlier on this afternoon, Aidan Walsh has just guaranteed at least a bronze medal for Northern Ireland.

It was a hard-fought battle in the light-middleweight category though as Aidan, a silver medallist in the Commonwealth Games four years ago in Australia, has to dig deep to claim a 3-2 quarter-final win over European amateur champion Mohammed Harris Akbar of England.

Panic over for now. Geraint Thomas is still carrying on as he tries to pull back some time on Rohan Dennis.

We'll get the standings at the second check point shortly...

    Hockey: India 2-0 Wales

India men are leading Wales at half-time in their Pool B hockey match.

Wales need to shock their highly-fancied opponents to reach the semi-finals.

If India win, they, along with England, will reach the last four with the hosts still to face Canada in their final group match at 16:00.

'Thomas clearly not happy about something'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Men's time trial

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

Geraint Thomas is calling the team - there looks to be another issue. He's on the radio - I don't know what he needs and if he is going to stop then surely that is the end.

His right brake lever looks to be bent. He is clearly not happy about something.

Canada's Caeli McKay is the early leader just ahead of England's Andrea Spendolini Sirieix - the best home nation diver so far - with Eden Cheng in 5th.

Gemma McArthur of Scotland and Tanya Watson of Northern Ireland lie 6th and 7th respectively

It's a disappointing start for Gold Coast bronze medalist Lois Toulson, who's down in 11th.

Wales' Lucy Hawkins is 13th - just outside the qualification spots.

Geraint Thomas is calling his team on his radio. There's something not right here.

Is he going to require a bike change following his crash? That could be game over.

Half-time at the NEC and it's been a fairly low scoring first 30 minutes but a positive one for Northern Ireland.

Ciara Crosbie and Emma Magee are combining well in the shooting circle to give Northern Ireland the advantage - can they hold on to earn their first victory of the 2022 Commonwealth Games?

Here we go then. Up first is England's Eden Cheng.

Quite a large splosh there which indicates a little bit of over-rotation from the 2018 European champion but she kicks things off with a 58.50.

Wales' Lucy Hawkins recorded a 51.80 after that.

17-year-old Andrea Spendolini Sirieix is also off to a really solid start with 69.00.

Leader Fred Wright hit the second check point at 19.2km in 25 minutes 25.79 seconds.

Northern Ireland's Darren Rafferty comes through third-fastest so far, almost one minute down on that time.

Birthday medal for Richardsonpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Women's lightweight quarter-final

Gemma Richardson is celebrating on two fronts - it's her 21st birthday today and she's also guaranteed a boxing medal.

She had a little birthday celebration with her Team England crew and then went out and beat Isle of Man's Jade Burden unanimously on points over at the NEC.

    Men's time trial

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

Dan Bigham is in the hunt for a podium place here. That first checkpoint is just that - it is just an indicator and this course will punish anyone that tries to get out too fast.

Caution, the courage to start steadily is so much more important in this race.

Thomas recovering wellpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Men's time trial

Geraint Thomas is pulling back time despite his earlier fall!

He's 30 seconds down on Rohan Dennis, equalling Dan Bigham's second-best time through the first check point despite coming down in the opening stages.

If he can continue like this, he still has a chance!

Shock at Thomas fallpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Gareth Griffiths
BBC Sport Wales at the Commonwealth Games

There was a huge gasp in the press room after Geraint Thomas fell off his bike during the early stage of his ride in the men's road race time trial.

Thomas never does anything easily in the Commonwealth Games after his road race gold in Glasgow in 2014 was almost threatened by a late puncture.

He is back on his bike but that is a major blow to his medal hopes.

    Mouth-watering light-middleweight quarter-final coming up next.

The type that, if the draw had been seeded, might have seen these two kept apart until the final.

Bradford's European champion Harris Akbar takes on Olympic bronze medallist Aidan Walsh from Northern Ireland, it should be a humdinger.

Jolly wins medal for Scotlandpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Boxing quarter-finals

Tyler Jolly of Scotland has got himself a medal in the men's welterweight but had to survive a scare in his quarter-final win over Neville Warupi of Papua New Guinea.

Warupi caught Jolly with a cracking, powerful overhand right at the start of the second round, which caused the Scot to touch down a glove on the canvas and receive a standing eight count.

However, despite that, Jolly gets the verdict on all five cards - 30-27 twice, 29-28 twice and 29-27.
