Three-time men's 1m springboard champion Jack Laugher was speaking to Katherine Downes after successfully defending his title again:

"Honestly I think what Jordan has done today is extremely special. First Commonwealth Games in front of a home crowd, there's a lot of pressure. He's come out there, he's pushed me and the boy from Australia all the way. He's done himself proud today and it's lovely having someone along side me now and it's great. I couldn't think of a better person for it."

A third straight 1m springboard title - does he have a stranglehold on the event?

"I wouldn't put it quite that way. This morning is proof that sometimes things can go wrong. I think I came into it maybe not in the right frame of mind and feeling a little bit scared, but today I just did my normal thing and it worked out. It's actually my lowest score that I have done in three Commonwealths.

"I'm still doing really well, and I like being pushed all the way."

Does he sometimes struggle with his mindset?

"It is always a work in progress and you can see the physicality of the people I am competing against - they're all so high. Jordan is a little bit younger than me and a very strong boy and at the top end, the physical aspect is really similar and what separates the best from the best is the physical aspect of it.

"Mental health and mental well-being has been extremely important for me. I've really struggled with it over the years but I feel like I've overcome quite a lot and obviously doing performances like this today and at the world championships makes it all better and keep me moving forward."

England's Harry Kendall is having to sit down and soak up the rest of this high jump competition after scraping over 1.91m at the third attempt and coming a cropper at 1.94m.

The multi-event top dogs soar on.

Overall leader Lindon Victor and second-placed Aussie Alec Diamond are two of those safely over at 1.97m.

Kendall was sixth at the start of this event but is going to ship some damage when the points are tallied up.

Jordan Houlden on getting a bronze on his Commonwealth Games debut:

"I feel absolutely speechless really. coming to my first Commonwealth Games and coming third, getting a medal - I wasn't expecting it. I am completely blown away.

Strong start with his opening dives and the experience:

"There's still a bit of experience I need to work on, Obviously being my first Commonwealth Games is - I am still a bit over-excited, (over-cooked) it a little bit. I'll hope for another Commonwealth Games.

"The fans were really loud today and family will be coming for the 3m springboard. They'll be supporting me all the way."

There is no Home Nations interest in this one. Murali Sreeshankar of India is the Commonwealth’s leading long jumper so far this year and looked in good shape in qualifying. Compatriot Muhammed Anees Yahiya is another contender.

South African Jovan van Vuuren has recovered from a serious pelvic injury last year to recapture his best form and could threaten.

Then Broadhurst headed off to the World Championships in Istanbul, where she won the light-welterweight title.

The hype surrounding her is huge, and she is heavily fancied in this lightweight category.
