    Have high hopes and he has had a fantastic season this year and it would be lovely if he could add another medal.

    Australian Oliver Hoare is first across the line in three minutes 37.57 seconds as a group of five move clear on the final straight to all secure automatic qualification for the final.

    Grace Brown was fourth in the Olympics and then had shoulder surgery so didn't race the end of last season but she's a deserved winner.

    This event was a big target for Anna Henderson because she went to university in Birmingham - watching her take those corners was so good to see, she's so good on the bike.

    It was a technical course - there were some tight turns and having some knowledge of the course would've been beneficial for Anna today.

    Next up on the track, it's time for the men's 1500m heats.

    And it means Scotland’s new world champion Jake Wightman is back in action.

    Heat one features Tokyo Olympic silver and bronze medallists Timothy Cheruiyot of Kenya and Josh Kerr of Scotland, Welshman Jake Heyward, England’s Elliot Giles and Aussie Olivier Hoare.

    In heat two, Wightman begins his bid for a summer hat-trick of 1500m gold at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and European Championships in the same summer. He's joined by Abel Kipsang, Scotland’s Neil Gourlay, Matthew Stonier of England, Piers Copeland of Wales and David Mullarkey of Isle of Man.

    The first five in each heat will go through, plus the next two fastest runners.

    England's Anna Purchase and Wales' Amber Simpson are safely through to Saturday's women's hammer final, placing third and fifth respectively to comfortably make the top 12.

    Canada's Camryn Rogers, with that Games-record throw of 74.68m, and Australia's Julia Ratcliffe, were the only athletes to secure the automatic qualification distance of 68.00m.

    A very tight first quarter comes to an end between Pool A leaders England and rivals Wales in the women's hockey.

    Wales had the best chance of the opening 15 minutes with Hannah Cozens setting up Amy Burton but the 26-year-old could only volley the ball over the bar with the goal at her mercy.

    Australia's Grace Brown was the last to start, and she's the winner of the women's time trial, with England's Anna Henderson coming second.

    New Zealand's Georgia Williams takes bronze.

    Australia's Grace Brown narrowly missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics last year in the women's time trial, finishing fourth, but she is on the charge and seemingly heading for the gold medal.

    England's Anna Henderson is set to be nudged down to second.

    So, a good morning for the home nations in the 200m heats as Hannah Brier of Wales, Abi Galpin of Guernsey, and Scotland's Beth Dobbin all make it safely through to tomorrow's semi-finals.

    Canada's Natassha McDonald faces no challenge at the front as she wins the final 200m heat in

    Beyonce Defreitas, of the British Virgin Islands, is second and Papua New Guinea's Toea Wisil makes the top three.

    Malta's Charlotte Wingfield finishes fourth in 24.47 to take the sixth and final non-automatic spot.

    Cycling: Women's time trial

    England's Anna Henderson now takes the overall lead as she finishes in a time of 40:38.55 and that is 74 seconds ahead of Rebecca Storrie.

    Will that be good enough for a gold for Henderson? All she can do now is sit and wait and hope. Australia's Grace Brown is her main rival and goes through the 23.2km in the lead at that stage.

    It's an all-home nations affair in Pool A in the women's hockey as England take on Wales at the University of Birmingham hockey centre.
