  1. England score fifthpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-5 England

England men have a fifth. Nick Bandurak drag flicks the ball into the top corner and sprints back to the halfway line. England aren't celebrating, they have a job to do.

Win by 14 against 10 men and they will avoid Australia. 21 minutes remain.

Lawn Bowlspublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

If you were tuned into the lawn bowls yesterday you'll know that Scotland's Rosemary Lenton became the oldest ever gold medallist at a Commonwealth Games.

The 72-year-old triumphed in the Para women's pairs event alongside partner Pauline Wilson.

But that record could be broken should Scotland's Melanie Inness and her director George Miller, who is 75 years and eight months old, take gold in the Para mixed pairs event, alongside Robert Barr and his director Sarah Jane Ewing.

First they must overcome England in the semi-final this evening, a unique pairing in itself. Alison Yearling and her partner Chris Turnball are directed by grandmother and grandson duo Susan and Mark Wherry. Keeping it in the family.

That's coming up from 18:00 BST.

  3. Third quarter under waypublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-4 England

We're back playing in the third quarter and it's been a much more even period in the men's hockey.

Five minutes pass with England unable to create a chance of note.

    Women's hockey: England 5-0 Wales

Earlier, England women thrashed Wales 5-0 in their final Pool A game to set up a semi-final with defending champions New Zealand.

Grace Balsdon scored a hat-trick with Hannah Martin and Giselle Ansley also on target as England topped their pool, winning all four of their matches.

The hosts take on 2018 gold medallists New Zealand on Friday.

'You cannot do that on a hockey pitch'published at 16:44 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-4 England

    Simon Mason
Ex-GB Olympic hockey player on BBC TV

That is a red card. That is violence on the pitch. Balraj Panesar cannot grab his throat. There was retaliation from Chris Griffiths but you cannot do that on a hockey pitch. He's grabbed his shirt around his throat. What an impact that can have on this game.

  8. England lead at the breakpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-4 England

    And that's half-time.

Remember if England men win by 14 clear goals or more they avoid world number one Australia in the semi-finals.

With Canada down to 10 and Chris Griffiths returning from the sin-bin in 10 minutes time, that might be a real possibility.

  9. powerlifting

One-two for England's Newson and Broomepublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

England's Zoe Newson claimed women's lightweight powerlifting gold earlier, as compatriot Olivia Broome also won silver.

The 30-year-old - who thought she would have to give up powerlifting when she became pregnant with son Duncan in 2018 - scored 102.2 to take gold, with Broome second with a score of 100.

    Here's how they did it.

  10. Canada down to 10published at 16:42 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-4 England

Canada's Balraj Panesar loses his cool four seconds before the half-time hooter, grabbing England's Chris Griffiths by the throat following the two coming together after their sticks get caught.

Griffith's gets a yellow for his involvement.

Crazy stuff. The umpires were given very little choice there.

  11. hockey

'Nothing the goalkeeper could have done'published at 16:39 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-4 England

It's a well-taken stroke [from Zach Wallace]. He took his time, the whistle had gone to say he could start but he held his nerve and held his breath, waited for the right moment to step forward.

It was a good stroke, right in the corner. There was nothing the goalkeeper could have done, even if he had gone the right way he wasn't going to get anywhere near that.

'We hadn't ridden with a closed road' - Thomaspublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

After an early crash derailed his gold medal hopes, what did Geraint Thomas make of his Commonwealth Games time trial experience?

"It's the same for everyone but we hadn't ridden the course with a closed road properly," he told BBC Sport.

"It was a sweeping left and I just clipped the barrier leg on the exit, I struggled to get the chain on and the brake was a bit bent. But it was my fault and it is what it is.

"I had a bit of adrenalin straight after the crash and went off a bit too hard. [On the radio] it was more getting info with the corners. The recon was pretty pointless because with the barriers it was completely different."

On his bronze medal and Fred Wright's silver, he added:

"Only the third time [at a Commonwealth Games] in a pretty long career - Melbourne is 16 years ago and that was my first games and I got bronze there.

"But to be part of such a great event and in the UK it is like a home games for all the home nations. Fred was strong last year but he is getting better and the future is bright for him and a lot of young guys."

England add fourthpublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-4 England

England men go 4-1 up through a Zach Wallace penalty flick.

It was awarded after Balraj Panesar cleared the ball off the line with his foot. Not deliberate so no card necessary.

He's middled it into the bottom corner. Brilliant finish from Liam Ansell.

'Super special to get silver'published at 16:30 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Men's time trial

    BBC Sport

Here's what England's time trial silver medallist Fred Wright had to say when he spoke to BBC Sport:

"It's super special. Coming into it I was thinking if I had good legs after the Tour I could do something good.

"The time trial is pretty simple, do your best and see what happens. I didn't think I would be that close to guys like G [Geraint Thomas] and Rohan [Dennis].

"I think my problem is sometimes I don't quite realise where I am until I'm there. Over time that will come and the confidence is sky high now.

"I'm looking forward to the road race on Sunday."

England score a thirdpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-3 England

England men grab a third as Liam Ansell deflects home a Nick Bandurak strike after a quickly-taken long corner.

The crowd are loving this, it's end-to-end hockey with the pressure off.

It's a similar feel to the Edgbaston HC summer league games which will take place on this pitch in a few weeks time. Just with slightly quicker ball pace.

'Nice to get the gold, finally' - Dennispublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Men's time trial

    BBC Sport

Australia's Rohan Dennis was talking to BBC Sport after winning gold in the men's time trial:

"Really happy now that I've got a gold medal. A lot of hard work since Delhi and it has finally paid off to get on that top step. A lot of work done by my family as well with me being home for eight weeks straight and my wife ended up coming out on the bike with me.

"There's a lot of people and friends - one guy (Alan Merchant) who really saved me with equipment. Just a bit of a mechanical - let's just put it down to that."

On whether he was aware of what had happened to Geraint Thomas:

"I was trying not to think about anyone else but I heard at the finish that Thomas had a bit of an issue in the first 3-5k it would have been nice to have a clean run for everybody but it was nice to get the gold finally."

England retake leadpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 4 August 2022

    Hockey: Canada 1-2 England

Second quarter and England men start it how they started the first with a goal straight out of the blocks.

They win the ball back through Liam Ansell in Canada's d and Nick Bandurak is on hand to restore England's lead with a reverse strike into the corner.

That's goal number eight of the Games for Bandurak.
