    England 21-11 14-7 Rwanda

If the Bello brothers already had one finger on the bronze medals after winning the first set, they've now got the bling on the palm of one hand.

Joaquin and Javier Bello are playing superbly as they race into a sizeable lead in the second set.

'We *heart* the Bello brothers' reads one sign in the crowd.

The pair are keen the Games creates a legacy for the sport in England and those watching in Birmingham are certainly invested.

“I think that was missing in the UK - a lot of people hadn’t seen it," said Javier.

"Everybody who has seen it for the first time is now thinking how amazing the sport is, how much of a show, a spectacle it is.”

You wait 22 minutes for a goal and then two come along in quick succession. A superb deflection into the back of the net from Tess Howard.

    It's absolutely rocking here.

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

    It's two!

Flora Peel swipes the ball goalwards and Tess Howard is on hand to reach out her stick and deflect the ball over the keeper and into the net.

England search for secondpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Hockey final: England 1-0 Australia

England are all over Australia. Who expected this?

The hosts are happy to transfer the ball around midfield and wait for openings, tiring out their opponents in the process.

Five minutes to go until half-time.

  5. squash

Waller and Selby reach doubles finalpublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's doubles

Over in the squash, Adrian Waller and Daryl Selby, who won silver on the Gold Coast four years ago, beat Scottish duo Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart 11-8 8-11 11-6 to reach the final of the men's doubles.

Up next it's James Willstrop and Declan James - if the duo beat the Malaysian pair, Wern Yuen and Yow Ng, they will set up an all-English final.

'It's all to play for again'published at 15:28 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

I actually thought that could have been the race-winning move but the chasing group have dragged themselves back into it. It is now all to play for again. Who is going to throw the next move with 25km to go? Still about half an hour of racing.

  8. cycling (road)

Lead group back togetherpublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's road race

That last attack was looking very promising, but we're back to a 15-man lead group at the front with 25km remaining. Who's going to be next?!

    Hockey final: England 1-0 Australia

    Katie Falkingham

What a superbly taken goal! And an even better celebration from Holly Hunt.

The roar from the crowd was sensational. They really are the 12th member of this England team today.

  10. hockey

England aheadpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Hockey final: England 1-0 Australia

    Yes!!!!!

What a finish this is from Holly Hunt.

England break down the right with the ball eventually switched to Hunt at the top of the d. One touch to bring it under control and then bang. She smacks it into the corner.

  11. hockey

England chancepublished at 15:25 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Hockey final: England 0-0 Australia

Great stuff from Sophie Hamilton. The England winger gets the ball on the left, hits the baseline before cutting inside and taking a shot under her arm.

But Aleisha Power is equal to it in the Australia net. Clearing with her right kicker.

  12. gold-medal

Gold medal - England - Drinkhall and Pitchfordpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's doubles final

    It'd gold for England!

Paul Drinkhall and Liam Pitchford let out a huge roar as they take the deciding game 11-4 to seal a 3-2 victory over India to retain their Commonwealth Games men's doubles title.

Disappointment for Indian pair Sharath Kamal Achanta and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who gave it everything only to lose in five games, just like they did in 2018.

  13. beach volleyball

English pair win first setpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    England 21-11 Rwanda

The party has gone up a level as English twins Javier and Joaquin Bello clinch the first set.

One more and they will go home with bronze medals.

Beach volleyball, for those not au fait, is best-of-three sets and the first to 21 points in the opening two.

If it goes to a decider then that is first to 15.

England looking comfortablepublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Hockey final: England 0-0 Australia

All Australia in the opening three minutes of the second quarter. But the top seeds have done nothing to scare England just yet.

The hosts look very comfortable sitting off the ball and letting the action come to them.

  15. boxing

Boxing - Lynch takes first roundpublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's light-welterweight final

    Thomas Duncan
    BBC Scotland at NEC Birmingham

Reese Lynch took that first round unanimously with the judges, but there was very little in it.

Louis Richarno Colin landed a couple of shots, including one to the face of Lynch.

    Nip and tuck.

  16. cycling (road)

Teggart, Watson in lead grouppublished at 15:21 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's road race

This is looking very good for Northern Ireland's Matthew Teggart and England's Sam Watson, though.

They have South Africa's Daryl Impey and New Zealand's Aaron Gate for company and if they can continue to work together this could be it.

The gap is reduced to 18 seconds as the chasing Geraint Thomas group begin to organise.

  17. hockey

Hockey back under waypublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Hockey final: England 0-0 Australia

We go again for another 15-minute stint.

Not to jinx things, but England keeper Maddie Hinch didn't touch the ball at all in the first quarter.

  18. hockey

First quarter endspublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

After breaking up an Australia counter England keep possession to see out the opening quarter.

Tense. Tight. Oh so even. Everything a final should be.

'The medals could have gone'published at 15:17 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

This group including Geraint Thomas have got to start working together or they are out of this race. The medals could have gone. It is a big gap now, well over 20 seconds. Wow. The front group are working well together. As it stands, only one member of that group will not get a medal if they keep committing to this.

  20. cycling (road)

Thomas group left behindpublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men's road race

Geraint Thomas can't do it all himself and needs the rest of the group to help chase this down to keep his medal hopes alive.

There's 30km to go and the lead group of four already have a 25-second lead. This is dangerous.
