Gold and a silver in Birmingham. What a week for the Scot.

Beatrice Chebet makes her move! Out in front!

And now Eilish McColgan, teeth gritted, pushes once again!

It'll be silver for Scotland I think as Chebet comes charging through!

To me, Chebet is just hovering and waiting. She must be feeling good, because that is when you run beside somebody. What happens now. Has Eilish got anything left?

The crowd volume goes up a notch, sensing Eilish McColgan needs that boost with Beatrice Chebet styill right on her shoulder.

Oh, and now Selhah Busienei has moved up and into the front! There goes the bell, McColgan third as it stands.

    Men's welterweight gold medal match

Similar pattern to the first round, really.

Wales' Ioan Croft is landing when he does choose to punch, while his Zambian opponent Stephen Zimba is going for quantity over quality.

Should be Croft's round again, split if not unanimous.

The Welshman takes it 4-1 on the cards of the five judges.

    Women's 5,000m final

I mean, it just looks exhausting, doesn't it? The stamina to do this and the 10,000m, my word...

Eilish McColgan and Beatrice Chebet are almost side-by-side now.

'McColgan not letting up at all'published at 19:58 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Women's 5,000m final

    Steve Cram
    Athletics commentator on BBC TV

This is well under 15 minute pace and McColgan is not letting up at all.

At the front these are going to be your three medallists - it all depends on whether Eilish can win the gold.

End of round onepublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Men’s welterweight gold medal match

Lots of aggression from Stephen Zimba in the first round.

Ioan Croft, eyes wide and focused, needs to have his wits about him.

A lovely left hand from Croft shows his accuracy, before Zimba responds with a body shot.

Patient start from Croft and his efficient punches give him a clean sweep of the first round.

"Let him come," is the advice from Croft's corner.

  13. diving

'Good but not good enough for Bent-Ashmeil'published at 19:54 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Women's 3m springboard final

    Leon Taylor
Olympic diving silver medallist on BBC TV

It's good but not good enough. Just a tad short for England's Desharne Bent-Ashmeil to put pressure on the leaders.

Australia's Maddison Keeney puts in the best dive of the competition to go stomping into the lead.

  14. diving

Keeney into the leadpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Women's 3m springboard final

A wonderful dive from Australia's Maddison Keeney brings a score of 75.95 and pushes her into the lead with one dive to go.

Malaysia's Nur Dhabitah Binti Sabri is second with Canada's Mia Valle third.

England's Desharne Bent-Ashmeil is seven points outside the medal positions in fourth and will need to produce something special in the final round.

McColgan's tactics are clear here, she is just looking to wind things up.

She is making it hard already on the chasing group and I am sure it will end up with just a couple of people in it.

A Welsh village with a population of 800 people can count two Commonwealth Games medallists among it.

    And they're twins.

Garan Croft claimed bronze after losing in the men's light-middleweight semi-finals yesterday, but today his brother Ioan goes for gold in the welterweight.

Zambia's Stephen Zimba stands between him and Commonwealth Games glory.

"Garan and I don't really come from a big boxing community, but we've shown that if we can do it anyone can,” said Ioan after his semi-final win.

"I'm now really looking forward to tomorrow's final and the chance to bring that gold medal home to Crymych."

'McColgan has struggled to sleep'published at 19:49 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Women's 5,000m final

    Paula Radcliffe
Women's marathon world record holder on BBC TV

Eilish McColgan prefers to get out in front and not have people clipping at her heels.

She might argue that her illness and niggles have been harder to recover than from that race but I also know that she has struggled to sleep because of what it meant to her.
