  1. 'Watson & Culverwell have to see it home'

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman

Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

England's Ben Watson has gone, and Guernsey's Sam Culverwell has joined him.

What a cracking move, England using their numerical advantage, they have covered everything and this one, at last, with 6km to go, looks to have been successful. Now they have to see it home.

Both are committed to this move, surely it will be enough.

  2. Post update

    Men's road race

Watson and Culverwell are still within sight for the rest of the group, with Geraint Thomas still among them.

The front two have only got a few seconds but the gap is holding for now...

  3. Australia start well

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

Australia start the third quarter with plenty of pressure inside England's 23. But the hosts are defending resolutely; every player in a white shirt is currently behind the ball.

Two minutes of the second half gone.

  4. NI's Walsh searches for gold

    Light-middleweight final

    Michael Morrow

BBC Sport NI at The NEC

Aidan Walsh the favourite for this one having dispatched of what were on paper his two biggest rivals in the light-middleweight division in the quarter and semi-finals

On paper, being the important term there.

Walsh won silver in 2018, and claimed Olympic bronze last year.

Is he about to take gold?

  5. Watson and Culverwell get clear

    Men's road race

    England's Sam Watson goes!

    Only Guernsey's Sam Culverwell follows.

They've got a gap. A very decent gap. This could be it!

  6. Hockey back under way

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

One last effort. England push back to start the second half.

  8. Post update

    Men's road race

Fred Wright launches another attack, and he's joined by Northern Ireland's Matthew Teggart.

There's no immediate response, but it's soon closed down.

    Less than 12km to go.

  9. 'NZ's Gate could fair best in a sprint finish'

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman

Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

It is looking more and more that this could come down to a sprint. If that happens I am not sure who would fair best. Perhaps New Zealand's Aaron Gate, who is a great track sprinter.

  10. Another attack fails

    Men's road race

On to the final lap of the circuit. 15km to go.

A new group of four get a few metres clear, and once again Geraint Thomas is involved.

But again, Lucas Plapp responds to bring them back.

  11. Half-time

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

England have never won gold at hockey in the Commonwealth Games.

They're 30 minutes away from glory.

  12. Bronze medal - England - Javier & Joaquin Bello

    Beach volleyball

    England win bronze! Birmingham erupts!

The Bello twins jump for joy when the Rwandans hit the second matchball into the net, then race over to the sideline to celebrate with their mum.

England's first medal in the sport at the Commonwealth Games.

What a moment for Javier and Joaquin Bello.

They clinch a 21-11 21-12 win and Smithfield turns into a nightclub.

  13. Plapp shuts down Thomas move

    Men's road race

England's Ben Turner goes for it now - and this time Geraint Thomas gets stuck into an attack.

    Is this the one?

Australia's Lucas Plapp is trying to bring it back... And he succeeds.

  14. Post update

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

From the short it's too high from Penny Squib and England win a free-hit.

Fiona Crackles was struck by the ball but is good to continue.

  15. 'Thomas needs to start turning defensive moves into offensive ones'

    Men's road race

    Chris Boardman

Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

I think the fatigue after three hours of racing is beginning to set in. They are not able to sustain attacks with tired legs now.

But now here is a strong attack from Fred Wright. Geraint Thomas is trying to drag this back but he is having to expend all his energy in defensive moves.

The Welshman needs to start turning these defensive moves into offensive ones.

England have three riders and are using them really well, spreading their attacks between them, while Thomas is doing it all on his own.

  16. Wright attacks, Thomas responds

    Men's road race

Right, into the final 20km. England's Fred Wright decides it's time to make a move - and once again it's Geraint Thomas who is forced to act to shut it down. Will Thomas have enough left in the tank to produce a final push after all this chasing?

  17. Post update

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

Australia win a short corner, their first of the match. A little under two minutes remain until half-time.

  18. Post update

    Hockey final: England 2-0 Australia

Three minutes to go until the break.

Worth pointing out that a 2-0 lead is far from safe in a hockey match. Yesterday, Australia men came from 2-0 down to beat England 3-2 in their semi-final.

  19. Boxing - Lynch defiant in victory

    Men's light-welterweight final

    Thomas Duncan

    BBC Scotland at NEC Birmingham

Reese Lynch cups his hands to his ears as some boos go around the NEC.

Some of the crowd thought that fight should have gone to Louis Carno Richards, who landed a big right hand to the face of Lynch right of the death after a good third round.

The judges disagree, though. And Lynch becomes Scotland's third boxing gold medallist of the day.

  20. Gold medal - Scotland - Reese Lynch

    Men's light welterweight

Scotland’s Reese Lynch has just done enough to hold on.

The 21-year-old takes gold on split decision against Mauritius’ Louis Richarno Colin, who picks up silver in his fifth Commonwealth Games.

Colin forced a standing count for Lynch in that final round after the Scot sustained a cut to his right eye.

Lynch follows Sam Hickey and Sean Lazzerini's gold-medal success.
