    Gold for Laura Muir!

Muir throws herself down onto the track, gasping for breath, and then raises her arms in celebration!

A time of 4:02.75. Lovely stuff.

    Women's featherweight gold medal bout

Elizabeth Oshoba nods her head after being whacked by a right hand from Michaela Walsh.

Patient stuff from the Northern Ireland boxer, who is controlling the bout.

Nigeria's Oshoba has to attack more, and she is trying, but can't land many punches.

This time the round goes unanimously to Walsh.

    Gold is within her grasp...

    Women's featherweight gold medal bout

Twice before Michaela Walsh has competed in a Commonwealth Games final.

    Twice before she won silver.

Can this be her golden hour?

Cautious start from both boxers in the opening minute before Walsh lands a couple of shots midway through the round.

Elizabeth Oshoba has a long reach but even that can't land as she's so far back.

Not much between them in the opening round but, for my money, Walsh has been more active.

The judges agree and give it to her on a 4-1 split.

Lining up alongside Laura Muir will be training partner and close friend Jemma Reekie, who finished fourth in the 800m in Tokyo last year.

Wales' Melissa Courtney-Bryant claimed bronze on the Gold Coast four years ago and finished runner-up to Muir at the British championships a few months ago.

There will also be competition from Australian duo Linden Hall, who finished fourth in 2018, and Jessica Hull, who is making her Commonwealth debut.

    Women's 1500m final

    Paula Radcliffe
Women's marathon world record holder on BBC TV

The 800m is Laura Muir's fun event. She ran hard last night and came away with a bronze and was happy with that.

She comes here as the complete athlete and I don't know how the other athletes can take it to her in the race.

I'm not sure how race to beat her in the 1500m - there are a handful that can beat her and they are not here now. She either has to make a mistake or not feel great.

So the big question for Laura Muir is how much she has left in her legs after emptying herself to snatch 800m bronze yesterday.

She is the favourite here, and could clinch Scotland's fourth gold of the day and 12th in total at Birmingham 2022. If she does, it would take her nation's haul of golds to a mark eclipsed only at Glasgow 2014.

Who can stop Muir?published at 19:17 British Summer Time 7 August 2022

    Women's 1500m final

It is difficult to look beyond Laura Muir as the favourite for the title.

The Scot won world championship bronze a few weeks ago behind Kenya's Faith Kipyegon, who is not competing at Birmingham, and is an Olympic silver medallist in the distance.

Muir won bronze yesterday in the 800m - the first time she's competed over the distance at an outdoor major event since 2013 - and is in good form, despite missing two months of training earlier this year with a stress fracture in her foot.

She finished 11th in the discipline at the 2014 Games and missed the Gold Coast Games four years ago to study for her veterinary exams.

Could be heck of a party in the Walsh household tonight.

Earlier Aidan Walsh won gold in the men's light-middleweight and sister Michaela is aiming to match him.

"Regardless of the outcome I'm so proud to be in the Commonwealth Games final with my brother. Not many people can say that so I'm just so happy," she said after her semi-final win yesterday.

"Where we are now is a phenomenal achievement - obviously we want to go one step further."

    Liam Pitchford has done it!

After winning doubles gold earlier today he has booked himself a place in tomorrow's gold medal match against India's Sharath Kamal Achanta, beating another Indian, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran 11-5 4-11 11-8 11-9 11-9 in the semi-final.

The 29-year-old brought back three medals from the Gold Coast four years ago, but none of them were individual. This would be the cherry on the cake for the world number 17.
