    Squash: Mixed doubles semi-finals

It's getting down to the latter stages of the squash competition at the University of Birmingham.

First up tonight is a semi-final in the mixed doubles between English pair Alison Waters and Adrian Waller against Australia's Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley.

The Lobban family might well have split loyalties later when Donna's Scottish husband, Greg, takes to the court alongside Rory Stewart against Australian pair Zak Alexander and Ryan Cuskelly in the men's doubles quarter-finals.

NZ's Bates out for golden duckpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Semi-finals: Australia v New Zealand (6-1)

    An ideal start for Australia!

Megan Schutt finds the inside edge of Suzie Bates' bat in the first over of the match and the opener is out for a golden duck.

And then Schutt gets Jess Plummer lbw to the very next ball! The New Zealander, wisely, reviews and the technology shows the ball is missing the stumps, meaning she earns a reprieve.

What a start for Australia though! A reminder that you can watch it over here.

Jack Laugher will be relieved to get that first dive out of the way, and with a good score too to open up his campaign.

After the preliminary this morning, he said he was going to go back and have a sleep to reset - let's hope he's been able to do that.

He's certainly got the crowd's backing.

Laugher let's out a huge sigh of relief as he completes his first dive with a score 74.80.

Solid start from the defending champion.

Laugher bidding for Games hat-trickpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men’s 3m springboard final

England's Jack Laugher is chasing his third gold of these Games when he lines up in the men’s springboard final shortly – but he only just made the final 12.

The defending champion blamed nerves when he scored zero in the first round of qualifying earlier today after performing the wrong dive.

Fortunately the 27-year-old, who has already retained his 1m springboard and synchronised 3m springboard titles in Birmingham, scored enough points in his remaining five dives to qualify in 11th position.

Laugher will be joined by England team-mates Dan Goodfellow and Jordan Houlden in the final, as well as Scotland's Ross Beattie and James Heatly.

Australian Li Shixin is tipped to be Laugher’s biggest challenger for gold. The 34-year-old won two world 1m titles representing China and was runner-up to Laugher in that event in Birmingham.

    Men's heavyweight semi-finals

Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali's victory means the Samoan will face England's Lewis Williams in tomorrow's final.

And that's the afternoon session at the NEC done and dusted.

Williams was one of five English boxers to reach a gold-medal bout today, along with four fighters from Northern Ireland, four Welsh and three Scots also assured of at least silver.

The boxing will back at 19:00 BST

Samoa's Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali lost the first round but fights back strongly.

Has he done enough in the final round? Surely.

We hear the words 'unanimous decision' and that suggests it is only going one way.

Plodzicki-Faoagali's name is read out and he will contest a final at the second successive Commonwealth Games,

He enjoys a warm embrace with Niui's Duken Tutakitoa-Williams as both men kneel on the canvas.

A bit of a one-sided final but sometimes that happens and there is nothing you can do about it.

No-one got near Wilson in this event, he absolutely steam-rolled everyone. And there he goes - the shirt is off.

Nothing Gary Kelly could do about it on the day - he was just blitzed but he does take away a silver medal.

A sublime display from the Australian. 21-3 in the final is absolutely crazy.

Gary Kelly just could not get near him and will want to forget the final in a hurry, although that silver medal will help to soften the blow a great deal. A sad end to an otherwise excellent tournament from the Ballymoney man.

Leamington Spa's Lewis Williams will contest the final of the heavyweight division. He has a lot of fans in the house who will raise the roof here at the NEC. Lewis allows himself a little smile. A job well done and it's handshakes and hugs all round. His fans are absolutely delighted and well they should be.

The bell goes and the St George's flags being waved at the NEC tell us the final round went as Williams hoped.

The Englishman used his jab well to ward off the increasing pressure from Coumi.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a unanimous decision..."

We know the rest. Lewis Williams breaks into a grin as his arm is raised.

    He will meet Niui's Duken Tutakitoa-Williams or Samoa's Ato Plodzicki-Faoagali in tomorrow's gold-medal bout.

    Men's singles final

On a gloriously sunny day in Royal Leamington Spa it's a case of when it rains, it pours for Gary Kelly at the moment.

He attempts to dislodge the jack with his final bowl but succeeds only in moving his bowls further away and, amazingly, bringing two of Wilson's closer to give the Aussie a two-shot end.

There is a response from the Northern Irishman in end 13 as Kelly stops the bleeding to take two shots but it's still a huge advantage for Wilson, who leads 18-3.
