    Women’s featherweight semi-finals

    Glasgow 2014? Silver.

    Gold Coast 2018? Silver.

Birmingham 2022? Michaela Walsh is hoping it will be third time lucky in her hunt for gold.

The Northern Ireland boxer starts well in the first of the three three-minute rounds, landing a solid right fist on South Africa's Phiowokuhle Mnguni.

It's a full house for Walsh on the judges' notepads.

    Women’s synchronised 10m platform final

Individual 10m platform champion Andrea Spendolini-Siriex teams up with Eden Cheng for England in the Women’s synchronised 10m platform final, which begins in a few minutes at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

They will be the last of six pairs to dive with England’s second pair, Robyn Birch and Emily Martin, going fifth.

Malaysia are another pair to watch with 32-time major medallist Pandelela Rinong, who won this event in 2018, teaming up with Nur Dhabitah. They are up fourth.

Jessie Knight is in lane eight, next to defending champion Janieve Russell.

Andrew Cotter, who knows a lot more than me about these things, reckons this could well be a Jamaican one-two-three.

    Here we go!

  7. gold-medal

Gold medal - Jack Hunter-Spivey - Englandpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's singles class 3-5

Jack Hunter-Spivey has a habit of shouting 'Yoooooo!' after every point he wins.

Well that was the loudest of them all because he is now Commonwealth champion.

A very close match but the Englishman has done it - 11-4 9-11 11-6 11-7.

He raises his opponent Nasiru Sule's hand at the end of the match, a lovely gesture. Nigeria's Sule takes silver while his compatriot Isau Ogunkule secured bronze earlier.

    Women's 400m hurdles final

There are eight gold medals on offer tonight in the Alexander Stadium.

England's Jessie Knight, who won the British championships title earlier this year, is in action in one of those events as she lines up in the 400m hurdles final.

Knight faces a tough task against defending champion Janieve Russell of Jamaica, who also won bronze in 2014, and Rushell Clayton, who is part of the same training group as the iconic Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Walsh eyes more NI successpublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Women’s featherweight semi-finals

The NEC turns into a nightclub while we wait for the boxing to resume.

Lights down, strobes on, volume up. The MC is even geeing up the crowd.

They should be pumped for when Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh walks out to take on South Africa's Phiowokuhle Mnguni in a few minutes.

By reaching the semi-finals and guaranteeing herself a third medal, Walsh has become the nation's most successful ever Commonwealth boxer.

Northern Ireland is guaranteed to have eight women win medals at Birmingham 2022, which doubles the team’s previous record of four.

Scottish pair bid for last-four placepublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's doubles quarter-finals

We have home nations interests in the next two matches at the University of Birmingham Squash Centre.

Scotland’s world silver medallists Greg Lobban and Rory Stewart are next up (19:30 BST) in the men's doubles quarter-finals.

They face Australia's Zac Alexander and Ryan Cuskelly, who were fifth in the World Championships.

Following that clash, England's Adrian Waller will return, this time with partner Daryl Selby, against Canada's Nick Sachvie and David Baillargeon.

Waller might have expected to be a little bit more tired after playing in the mixed doubles earlier.

But he took just 20 minutes to book his place in the final after he and partner Alison Waters won 2-0 against Australia's Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley.

    Semi-finals: Australia v New Zealand (144-7)

    So then.

Australia will need to reach the gold medal match and take on India.

The favourites did so well in the closing stages to restrict New Zealand to 144-7. For this Australia side, that is a very manageable total...

England's Adrian Waller is gunning for gold after he and partner Alison Waters breezed into the squash mixed doubles final.

They took just 20 minutes to win their semi-final, beating Australia's Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley 11-8 11-8.

Waller and Waters will now play New Zealand's Paul Coll and Joelle King in Sunday's final.

"We back our skills against theirs," said Waller.

"I know they are a strong pairing. They have been together for many years and have been very successful. So we will have a battle on our hands, but we will be fine."

Waller also goes in the men's doubles quarter-finals later tonight, partnering Daryl Selby against Canadian pair Nick Sachvie and David Baillargeon.

Hunter-Spivey & Sule all squarepublished at 19:21 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's singles class 3-5

What a start from Jack Hunter-Spivey. He takes the opening game 11-4 against the experienced Nigerian Nasiru Sule and turns to the crowd with a huge cheer.

Half of the England table tennis team are in to watch this one.

Sule picked his level up in the second game, charging out to a 6-0 lead and shouting out after each point won. But Hunter-Spivey forced his way back into the match and got on a massive run to take eight points in a row, but even that wasn't enough. A very tight second game ends 11-9 to Sule.

    Men's featherweight semi-finals

Wow! Big news from the boxing.

Northern Ireland's Jude Gallagher is through to the gold medal bout without stepping foot in the ring tonight.

We're hearing Canada's Keoma-Ali Al-Ahmiadieh has pulled out of their match - which was scheduled next - and Gallagher is given a walkover.

It is a shut out on the podium and this is the loudest we have heard the crowd.

In the end that fifth round dive cost Jack Laugher. A falter from the defending champion - but it is an English one-two-three.

  18. gold-medal

Gold medal - England - Daniel Goodfellowpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's 3m springboard final

It is gold for Daniel Goodfellow! And not only that it is an England 1-2-3!

Li Shixin can only score 70.20 in his final dive which means he misses out on the medal positions.

Goodfellow tops the charts with a score of 484.45. Jordan Houlden is second on 465.15, with defending champion Jack Laugher third on 462.30.

Spare a thought for Scotland's James Heatly, who finishes fourth for the third time at these Games.

Postpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's featherweight semi-finals

Before we see the first of the Brits tonight, the night session opens with Ghana's Joseph Commey and India's Hussam Uddin Mohammed.

This ain't no curtain raiser though. This, of course, is for a place in the men's featherweight gold-medal bout.

Heck of a contest, this one.

Commey loses the first round but finishes the stronger. That's enough to win on split decision.

The Ghanaian is into the final and celebrates like you would expect someone in his position would. Euphoric doesn't even cut it.

Next up is Northern Ireland's Jude Gallagher as he bids to meet Commey there.

Dan Goodfellow pumps the air - and so he should. The crowd is surprised.
