But Australia come straight back. Knocking the jack away and pinning two of their own bowls to it.

Next up England remove one of the bowls to give Australia a single point if things were to end now.

Remember we have an extra end if it's a tie.

Jack Laugher scored 51.00 for his third dive, keeping him second from bottom as it stands. His next three dives have a higher degree of difficulty so nail those and it should be enough to push him into the all-important top 12. He's 26 points off it at the moment.

    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

High stakes at Edgbaston where England are preparing to face India for a place in the cricket final.

News just in that India have won the toss and will bat first.

That won't worry England too much - Nat Sciver has lost the toss in all four of the matches she has led the team in the absence of Heather Knight.

And in Katherine Brunt they have just the bowler to make an immediate impact - she took a wicket with England's first ball of the Games and also struck in the first over of win over New Zealand on Thursday.

Race walking on the track! Well I never.

Wales' British champion Bethan Davies won bronze over the 20km race walk at the Commonwealth Games four years ago.

But the race has been halved for Birmingham 2022 - and moved from the road to the track.

That's up next at Alexander Stadium. Heather Lewis also competes for Wales.

England trio jump for goldpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Women's high jump final

First up over in the track and field to begin a jam-packed weekend is the women's high jump final.

There are three home nations athletes to watch out for in this, with English trio Morgan Lake, Emily Borthwick and Laura Zialor all involved.

Lake earned silver four years ago and is the top medal prospect among the three English women.

But it'll be tough for her to deny Australian Eleanor Patterson, who won this title as a teenager in 2014. Patterson's compatriot Nicola Olyslagers, the Olympic silver medallist and 2018 Commonwealth bronze medallist, does not start the final.

At the end of the first round, Jamaica's Yona Knight-Wisdom - born and raised in Leeds - is top of the standings after scoring 77.50 in his opening dive.

England's Dan Goodfellow and Jordan Houlden are level on 71.40 in third, while as I said before, Jack Laugher is bottom of the pile after that failed dive.

You win big, we win big. England and Australia are level again at 16-16.

  20. diving

Laugher fails first divepublished at 10:17 British Summer Time 6 August 2022

    Men's 3m springboard preliminary

    Katie Falkingham
BBC Sport at Sandwell Aquatics Centre

Jack Laugher's first dive has gone down as a fail, because he didn't perform the dive he was down to do - a forward two-and-a-half somersaults with two twists in pike.

That will put him rock bottom of the standings at the end of round one on zero points.
