Easy peasy for English two-time Commonwealth silver medallists Tin Tin Ho and Liam Pitchford, who are through to the quarter-finals with a 11-7 11-9 11-2 victory over Canada's Edward Ly and Sophie Gauthier. Can they go one better this year?

Not so easy for compatriots Tom Jarvis and Charlotte Bardsley - they went to a deciding game against Jeremy Hazin and Ching Nam Fu of Canada but eventually emerged victorious - 8-11 12-10 11-7 13-15 11-8.

Next up, Paralympic bronze medallist Jack Hunter-Spivey plays Nigeria's Isau Ogunkunle.

At the end of the first round of the preliminary, England's Yasmin Harper is in second position, while Scotland's Clara Kerr is third. Canada's Mia Vallee leads after scoring 57.20 in her opening dive.

Scotland's defending champion Grace Reid scored 48.30 and is in seventh as it stands.

As 12 athletes go through to the final, and only 12 competing in the preliminary, all will go through and this serves simply to determine the start order for the final.

The men's decathlon will be decided today, and it's quite the competition.

At the halfway stage, Grenada's defending champion Lindon Victor leads the way with 4327 points, but he's just 85 points clear of Australia's Cedric Dubler.

Victor's brother, Kurt Felix, is less than 100 points behind Dubler in the bronze medal position - but another Australian, Alec Diamond, is only 11 points behind him.

England's Harry Kendall is sixth on 3924 points.

There are three decathlon events to come this morning, with the 110m hurdles, discus and pole vault events all to come before the javelin and 1500m tonight.

England's Jamie Walker, who won a silver in the men's pairs lawn bowls competition in Birmingham, is out of the men's singles, losing at the quarter-final phase 21-16 to Aaron Wilson of Australia.

But Gary Kelly of the Northern Ireland is still in medal contention as he has just secured a 21-12 victory over Jason Evans of South Africa to move into the final four.

It's been announced that the 10m-tall sculpture that starred in the opening ceremony is set to stay in Birmingham.

On display in Centenary Square after its debut last week, it was due to be dismantled at the end of the Games.

But following a reaction from the public, Birmingham City Council has confirmed the bull has won a reprieve.

First up at the diving today is the preliminary for the women's 1m springboard.

Scotland's Grace Reid is the defending champion in this event, after she became her country's first Commonwealth champion in the sport for 60 years in 2018.

She prepared for the defence of her 1m title by coming sixth and winning 3m mixed synchro bronze at the recent World Championships in Budapest. That helped her fall “back in love” with diving after failing to even make the 3m springboard semi-final at the Olympics.

Also flying the flag for Scotland is Clara Kerr, while Amy Rollinson and Yasmin Harper dive for England.

Here's how things stand in the medal table at the start of day eight.

Australia still lead the way with 50 gold medals, but England, on 42, are not far behind.

Scotland are in fifth place with 34 medals in all, while Wales sit ninth and Northern Ireland are 14th.

Scotland's Iain McLean gets the job done and is into the men's singles semi-finals thanks to an excellent 21-4 win over Canada's Ryan Bester, who won silvers at the 2014 and 2018 Games and a bronze in 2006.

However, Ross Davis of Jersey will be playing no further part in the tournament as he has been eliminated, losing 21-12 to Fairul Izwan Abd Muin of Malaysia.

Plenty coming up today, with the men's synchro 3m springboard final the highlight of this morning's session, starting at the very specific time of 11:18 BST.

It's all going on in the table tennis today with matches across several different events getting underway round about now.

Up first are the mixed doubles round of 16 matches where England's 2014 and 2018 runners-up Liam Pitchford and Tin Tin Ho face Canada's Edward Ly and Sophie Gauthier.

England compatriots Tom Jarvis and Charlotte Bardsley also face a Canadian pair - Jeremy Hazin and Ching Nam Fu.

A bit later England's Paralympic bronze-medallist Jack Hunter Spivey will go in the class 3-5 semi-final while fellow Englishman and reigning Commonwealth champion Ross Wilson takes on Wales' Joshua Stacey in the 8-10 class semi-final.

There are loads more home nations athletes in action this afternoon but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Stay tuned.

Scottish powerlifter Micky Yule won heavyweight bronze yesterday, in the city where he was given life-saving surgery in 2010 after being injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on duty in Afghanistan.

JJ Chalmers' was left emotional after watching his friend's achievement and interview.

Scotland's Iain McLean is currently performing well in his men's singles quarter-final against two-time silver medallist Ryan Bester of Canada.

McLean is currently 15-4 ahead after 12 ends and that's the match on BBC One.

In the women's triples semi-finals, the England trio of Jamie Winch, Natalie Chestney and Sian Honnor are in charge as they lead 14-4 against Cook Islands after 10 ends.

England's Jack Laugher and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix won the first diving titles on offer at Birmingham 2022 on a golden night for England.

Laugher, 27, successfully defended his 1m springboard title for a second time, as team-mate Jordan Houlden took bronze.

Seventeen-year-old Spendolini-Sirieix then won the women's 10m platform on her Games debut, with team-mate Lois Toulson taking silver.
