  1. SA 4-0 (target 134)published at 06:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

With Sri Lanka needing to take early wickets or face an early flight back to Colombo, they've posted two slips among seven men on the off side. Captain Mathews is still wearing a heavy strapping on one finger on his left hand from when he was struck a nasty blow while batting. Amla sees off the rest of Malinga's over, which ends with a hard stare from the bowler.

Lasith Malinga charges in with the new ball, and Hashim Amla smacks it through the covers for four. This innings may not last long...

Time for Sri Lanka to unleash The Slinger - with 30 minutes until the interval.

"De Villiers is playing it in the modern way by selecting attacking bowlers rather than bowlers who contain. If you hang in there and keep it tight, you could be in trouble if you take three wickets after 30 overs. That is how you have to play on good pitches like this, you have to get people out. It makes cricket a better game."

It's been one of those mini-intervals where the side batting first is out so soon, that they only have a 10-minute interval before the side batting second resumes, before the "proper" interval is taken at the "proper" time. So here come the South African openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla.

"If they win, this will be a significant hurdle - South Africa would then go to Auckland, where we think they'd play New Zealand [if they beat West Indies] - what a game that would be."

The Mighty Mojo: Sangakkara looked punched out. He's involved in such a high percentage of the match - keeping wicket and batting at three.

"De Villiers is the least formulaic captain South Africa have ever had. When Hansie Cronje was captain, they'd win about 80% of the games but it would always be so formulaic, with the opening bowlers always bowling six overs, et cetera. De Villiers is innovative but the problem is, he can never get 50 overs finished in time."

"I don't think I have seen Steyn bowl quicker, he gave nothing away and got rid of Dilshan. The initiative was never seized by Sri Lanka. South Africa turned to spin, and between the aggressive and attacking Tahir, and blow me, the orthodox off-spin of Duminy, they took seven wickets through spin."

And the maths are now simple: South Africa need to score 134, from 50 overs, to win their first ever World Cup knock-out game.

Lose this one, and it's fair to predict that the word "chokers" might be trending on social media in a couple of hours' time.

So, who to break the last-wicket partnership? Leg-spinner Imran Tahir is brought back on, but we're still in powerplay so there are only three scouts posted outside the circle. Malinga, bleached-blond hair sticking out of the back of his helmet, slaps a short and wide ball straight to cover to end the innings.

  16. SL 131-9published at 06:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

That's a good hit for a number 10, Chameera bashes the free-hit ball over mid-on for a couple. A bit of a Brucie bonus for Sri Lanka.

  18. Third upirepublished at 06:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

In the great tradition of number 11s worldwide, Malinga backs away from his first couple of deliveries from Morkel, but manages to jam his bat down and dig out the third. Just when Morkel's about to join up the dots for a wicket maiden, Morkel bowls a no-ball, Malinga aims a baseball-style cross-batted blast over the bowler's head, they run two, go for a third and there's a risk of a run-out...

  19. Postpublished at 06:34 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

And we're ready to resume. Chameera has been joined by last man Lasith Malinga, who will be facing Morne Morkel.

"The innings never got going, but there were possibilities at 105-4 of respectability. In the bat of an eyelid it was 127-9 and the game is just about done and dusted. I can't remember a significant error in the field, the bowlers have been on the money, and the real bonus has been Duminy."
