There's a hint of swing and Taylor has already passed the 90mph mark but Cook only has to play at one delivery which he pushes forwardly confidently. Attention now turns to Trotty.

The sun-baked surface is gleaming as a goatee-bearded Jerome Taylor begins proceedings to Alastair Cook with three slips and a gully in place. The umpires are Billy Bowden from New Zealand and Australian Bruce Oxenford.

"I first saw Shai Hope when he was 10 years old. He has scored two hundreds this year including a double hundred. He's a very good player. I'm just hoping he doesn't open the batting, because he's not an opener."

Debutant Shai Diego Hope is a 21-year-old right-hander from Barbados, who has only played 14 first-class matches, having made his debut in 2013. He has been presented with his cap by legendary former Windies captain Clive Lloyd.

Jon Finney: Boring, boring England. Management want to consolidate their position (a series win) but proves detrimental to its future surely.

Matthew Keast: Any point in taking Rashid, Plunkett and Lyth on tour? England playing it safe yet again - the Aussies & NZ will destroy us.

Henry Ashman: I was excited, now I'm just cross. Hate this "don't change a winning side" idea, means new players only come into losing sides.

  6. Windies change bowling optionspublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 1 May 2015

So, a shuffling of the bowling attack for West Indies, who recall strike bowler Jerome Taylor in place of Kemar Roach and bring in 25-year-old left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul for Devendra Bishoo.

Taylor was West Indies' most impressive bowler in the first Test, dismissing Jonathan Trott (twice) and Alastair Cook, but missed the second match in Grenada as the Windies struggled.

Permaul (pictured) meanwhile has played four Tests, the most recent of them in December 2013, taking 12 wickets. The slow left-armer has a highly impressive record for Guyana in the West Indian domestic competition.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

"I am surprised England are unchanged, I was convinced Ben Stokes wasn't going to play, he looked quite tentative yesterday, I thought Plunkett would come in and Adam Lyth would come into contention but you don't change a winning team they say. I was watching the West Indies warm up and the ball was swinging, which isn't great news for Jonathan Trott."

  8. England fans out in forcepublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 1 May 2015

Plenty of England fans in attendance, around 10,000 they reckon, far outnumbering the home contingent. We will try to identify some of those English locations on the banners as the day progresses.

England lost three in a row at the Kensington Oval between 1981-1990 when the West Indies bowling attack was a little more potent than it is these days, but are unbeaten in the last four Tests at the ground, winning two and drawing two.

West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin: "We would have batted but there's still a bit of moisture in the pitch and we'll hopefully utilise that. I think it will go through a bit more than the first two venues. The England supporters always come with enthusiasm and it's good to have a full stadium."

  13. Quotes from the captainspublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 1 May 2015

England skipper Alastair Cook: "It would be nice for everyone to get runs but we can't afford to look too far ahead, we have to get through the first hour. It's a special game for [Barbados-born] Chris Jordan and hopefully one he'll remember for the right reasons."

  14. Team newspublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 1 May 2015

England unchanged. West Indies make three changes, including the return of paceman Jerome Taylor.

  16. Pitch and conditionspublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 1 May 2015

We'll have the toss shortly and the match begins at 15:00 BST but I can tell you the weather is glorious and Ben Stokes has tested his back injury by bowling to Ian Bell, whose finger problem seems to be ok. Will Jonathan Trott regain his place at the top of the order? Word is he will, and England are not renowned for their flexibility with selection.
