  1. Record run chase?published at 11:52 British Summer Time 14 August 2015

England's previous best run chase to draw a test match was 229. With Australia leading by almost 250 the women will have to produce a record breaking performance.

Alison Mitchell, speaking on TMS, is talking about her car's breakdown last night. She's still not got to the root of the problem... but has been told it could be expensive.

Why is it that mechanics, roofers and electricians can't give a firm quote? Other than to just tut, blow and then says it'll be expensive. Is it their unwritten rule?

Back to the cricket... three more runs for England to chase are scored by Australia.

Jess Jonassen is the third woman to score a total of 150 runs on Test debut and the third woman to make 50 twice on debut.

  4. Aus 135-4 (lead by 241)published at 11:47

It almost feels like we are going through the motions until Australia reach the target they have in mind for England. Laura Marsh continues to be milked for singles. Four of them to be precise.

"She so skillful. She's looked so calm and composed at the crease. Yes, she scored 99 in the first innings but she had to start again and she's never played at Test match before - complacency could have set in."

    Aus 131-4

Heather Knight is given a twirl, right arm offies from round the wicket. Finally Australia find the boundary when Knight bowls a rank full toss and is pulled for four by Jess Jonassen. That brings up her second half-century of the match. Not a bad debut.

  9. Aus 121-4 (lead by 227)published at 11:37

We're at a bit of a crossroads here - Australia have a decent lead but aren't pressing too quickly to add to it. England are just waiting for the call to pad up. Come on Meg Lanning... declare now and make it interesting.

Laura Marsh comes into the attack to bowl her right-arm offies from round the wicket. The Australians are happy to milk her for the odd singles.

  11. 'Australia are set'published at 11:34 British Summer Time 14 August 2015

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"Things are ticking along very nicely for Australia. Already it would be a record-breaking score for England to win it. You can tell Australia are going to set in for a while. These are decent batting conditions."

  12. Aus 117-4 (Jonassen 40 off 54)published at 11:29

There's a lot of encouragement from the field as Katherine Brunt tears in. The Barnsley Express almost breaks into celebration every ball she bowls... like a party popper ready to explode with excitement. Just one from the over.

It's idyllic at Canterbury today - blue sky, the odd fluffy cloud, grass banks, gentle breeze. What better way to spend a Friday morning? Alex Blackwell runs a four down to third man with a delicate cut past the keeper. Classy.

Ah, yes, quite the let down this one.

It's 67 years since Don Bradman ended his Test career with a duck and missed out on an average of 100. So what are your greatest cricketing ant-climaxes?

  16. Aus 109-4 (Jonassen 37, Blackwell 26)published at 11:22

Jess Jonassen is a seriously good player - she's been head and shoulders above everyone in this match. Katherine Brunt, one of the quickest around, is worked into the off side for a single by the left-hander who seems to have more time than anyone else. A sure sign of ability. She's got an extra yard in her head. The Teddy Sheringham of women's cricket.

There's a young Mum walking into the ground with her eight-year-old and a slightly younger sibling in a pram. What age can you get your kids into cricket? I can't remember taking much interest before the age of six. Just two singles to advance the score slowly.

Remember this one? Needing one run to win against Australia in the 1999 World Cup semi-final, South Africa threw it away when Lance Klusener and Allan Donald were inexplicably run out with two balls still to go.

  19. Aus 103-4 (Blackwell 22, Jonassen 35)published at 11:14

Katherine Brunt, hair tied behind her head, charges in and she's bringing the ball back into the right-handed Alex Blackwell. Maiden over.

  20. Aus 103-4 (lead by 209)published at 11:11

Every run is vital this morning, and Kate Cross saves a boundary with a diving stop on the boundary to limit Alex Blackwell to two which brings up the half-century partnership. At a run-rate of more than 3.5 an over, it's been one of the quicker partnerships in this match.
