Moeen round the wicket to Amla. Straight, block, repeat five times until Amla tickles one behind square on the leg side to pinch the strike.

"It is a hot day, the England bowlers have a plan to bowl wide but at some stage they are going to get frustrated and want to take wickets. It is a game of cat and mouse at the moment."
SA 161-2
Stuart Broad, his blond hair bouncing on his head as he charges in, uses the crease to try and subtly change the angle of delivery. He manages to beat AB de Villiers on the outside edge with a leg-cutter. A fascinating battle. Drinks.

John Masters: Nice to see some real test cricket today after yesterday's fireworks - appropriate for a return to sobriety.

"Just 12 runs in the last 11 overs."

"There were some sunburned faces in our hotel this morning. Poor old James Taylor's dad looked like someone had got an iron and pressed it against his face."
Many of the travelling England supporters are lay on a grass bank to one side of the ground, sheltering from the hazy sun beneath some old-looking trees. Picnic blankets and flip-flops add a splash of colour to proceedings.
Moeen Ali is given a bowl for the first time today and he begins round the wicket to the right-hander, looking to turn one into the batsman and bring lbw into play.

"If you get a hundred you are going to hear from Jimmy Anderson all day, especially while he is walking back to his mark. I only understood about 25% of what came out his mouth though with his accent. I definitely learnt a few words though."
Stuart Broad, who many now regard as England's most skillful bowler in all conditions, is given a chuck by Alastair Cook. Up in the commentary box, Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini chat over a cup of tea. Everyone is just waiting for something to happen. England know it might well happen soon if they can dislodge one of these two. Until then, it's going to be fascinating if not thrill a minute Ben Stokes-style.

"Finn this morning: five overs, two maidens, no wicket for 13."

You're all very quiet this morning... back to work blues? Remember, you can always send us a picture of how cricket is getting you through the day.
The cricket is fairly attritional at the moment. AB De Villiers works a single into the off side and then sets off on a curious run for a single. The type of run which we've all done after a particularly spicy dinner the night before.

South Africa seamer Vernon Philander, who has missed the first two Tests with an ankle injury, has just retweeted this...

"Runs have definitely dried up, with just two runs in the last six overs."
Hashim Amla shows the dexterity of a boxer to drop his hands sufficiently enough to sway out of the way of a Steven Finn delivery with extra bounce. A third maiden on the bounce.
Graeme Smith

"Yesterday it looked as though South Africa didn't have a plan, with fielders everywhere, but England have a settled 7-2 pattern."
I've just looking at the bowlers to have dismissed AB de Villiers the most in Test cricket and all of them extract decent bounce from a surface - Stuart Broad (8 times), Peter Siddle (6), Mitchell Johnson (5) and Sreesanth (5). England have clearly done their homework by letting Steven Finn kick off the day.
James Anderson's plan is clear. He's just hanging the ball outside off stump and hoping to induce a false shot. AB resists temptation and it's another maiden.

"England have got to keep patient, something is going to happen here. The England supporters are loving this and De Villiers is looking a bit unsettled."
AB de Villiers appears to be uncomfortable against Steven Finn. First he gets an edge on to his boot and the return catch drops short of the sprawling bowler and then he pulls the ball just short of mid-wicket. Realising Finn is troubling the batsman, the travelling England support raise the volume.
