"It's a great shot - he was trying to get it right up under his toes but it wasn't quite full enough. These are serious moments for England."

  3. 6 runs

    SL 123-5published at 15.2 overs

That might have gone even further, over mid-wicket from Mathews this time, a slog sweep.

No need to run for that, tossed up by Moeen and it is massive over long-on from the brilliant Mathews.

The Sri Lanka physio is administering some rough treatment for Mathews. The elbow is being applied and it does not look nice. The skipper obviously suffering from cramp on a day of high humidity. But he will want to be dealing in boundaries and not running much anyway.

  6. SL 111-5 (61 needed from 30 balls)published at 15 overs

Fifty for Mathews from 40 balls. England were 99-3 at this point.

  7. SL 109-5published at 14.3 overs

"Game still on. Bear in mind after 15 overs England only had 99 on the board. Sri Lanka have upped the rate very effectively."

  9. 6 runs

    SL 106-5 (66 needed from 36 balls)published at 14 overs

Thisara Perera is the new man and he wastes no time, hoisting Moeen over cow corner and into something wet beyond the boundary ropes.

  10. SL 98-5published at 13.3 overs

More spin with Moeen Ali and Mathews cannot get the big stroke away yet, only singles so far.

"Mathews has played the stunning shots but Kapugedra was getting going. Stokes has a terrific pair of hands and he would have been confident under that."

  12. wicket

    Kapugedera c Stokes b Plunkett 30 (SL 95-5)

It was very high but Stokes was more than up to the task in the deep, he catches it with hands high, Australian style, and the partnership of 80 in 10 overs is brought to an end.

  17. 6 runs

Kapugedera this time, a big stride and a classical follow through. Over extra cover, many rows back.

Six more for Mathews, a nonchalant flick at Rashid and it sails over long-on and over the fence.

Ian Bell (not that one): Loving listening to the cricket in a wet and cold Edinburgh. Surely they will see us in to the semis from here.

"It was a very difficult chance - he almost dived too early. It was a catch-it-three-times-out-of-10 kind of chance."
