Umpire Alex Wharf told Sky Sports: "We've just let [the captains] know that we're abandoning it [for the day]. It's a saturated outfield, wet in areas. So we'll come back tomorrow. It's probably the best for both teams. The ground staff have been fantastic. They got rid of a lot of water but there's obviously still a lot of wet areas."

If you're not aware, England really, really need to get on the field this week - although they have games in hand in the ICC Women's Championship,, external they need to win them if they're to finish in the top four of the table and qualify automatically for the World Cup which they host next summer. The other teams will compete in a 10-team qualifier early in 2017.

  20. Debutant Hartley 'a character'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 20 June 2016

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Ex-England batter on BBC Test Match Special

"What a character. The game needs characters and Alex will say things that will shake it up a bit.

"She made the move to Middlesex from Lancashire and that was positive for her, it got her on the radar.

"Hartley will give it air, give it a bit of of rip and I think she will want to be in the game every single ball."
