  1. Australia aim to 'break' Englandpublished at 23:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

Australia's Mitchell Marsh, speaking to ABC, on Australia's plan today: "Try and build on our lead and get it over 200 - that would be great.

"It's taking a little bit of turn. The longer we can bat and bring Nathan Lyon into the game.

"When you make teams field for as long as we have, they can break. Hopefully we will have some tired legs to bowl at in the second innings."

Mitch Marsh, who will be walking to the middle in a few minutes time, said earlier that he gets more nervous for his brother than he does for himself. Bless him.

  3. 'We'll be giving everything we can'published at 23:23 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

England seamer James Anderson on TMS: "We're playing Australia at the SCG. It's a huge occasion for an English cricketer. It's not difficult to get yourself up for a Test match.

"We want to get something out of this game. We'll be giving everything we can over the next two days."

The Australian bowlers have been well rested for about two days. There's scope for a final heroic act from England - but it does look a big ask.

It's been a long series for Anderson - he's now bowled more balls in this series than he has in any series in the past. He's England's leading wicket-taker in the series and, frankly, they'd have been in even more of a mess without him.

  6. 'I've not enjoyed any of the surfaces'published at 23:19 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

England bowler James Anderson, speaking to Test Match Special: "I'm feeling a bit tired but ready to get going again.

"It was a decent temperature yesterday - we're lucky it's a dry heat, not like Sri Lanka where the humidity is up and you're struggling to breathe.

"I'll be brutally honest, I've not enjoyed any of the surfaces. They've all been slow and unfriendly to seamers. You get that from time to time. Today we'll try and get some reverse swing, make some inroads and then bat really well.

"It feels like a lot of overs, but I'm glad my body has coped with it. I think I bowled by fastest ball of the series yesterday. That's a good sign."

  8. 'We have stuck together'published at 23:17 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

It's been a tough tour for England, on and off the field, but wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow says there are no divisions in the squad.

"The games have not gone well - but there has been no infighting within the squad," he said yesterday.

"There's been a few things thrown at us in Australia but at no point has there been any fractures within the group."

"That's a huge positive for us as a group of players and people."

England seamer James Anderson speaking to TMS, on Mason Crane: "I've been really impressed. he's got a lot of character, a lot of skill. He settled into the game really well. He could have got a few more wickets yesterday.

"It's a tough start for him; he has bowled closer to 49 overs already. He had got a lot of ability so I'm sure he'll progress from here. He''ll learn a lot from this experience."

  10. 'He thought he was made of sugar'published at 23:14 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January 2018

"He used a whole bottle of sunscreen, then sat in the sand with no towel. His whole body was covered in sand.

"When it came to going into the water, he thought he was made of sugar and that if you jump into a bath over here you'll get eaten by a shark."

Our man in Australia, Stephan Shemlit, has been finding more out about England's latest Test deubtant, Mason Crane.

Morning! Welcome to day four of the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney.

I'll be honest, it's looking bleak for England. Australia are going to resume shortly on 470-4, with Shaun Marsh on 98, and Mitch Marsh on 63. Yesterday was flat, both in terms of the pitch and England's mood. I fear it could be a long morning for the tourists.

Positives: no century for Steve Smith.

Negatives: Usman Khawaja made 171, Shaun Marsh is on 98 and England are facing another long day in the field.

    I don't envy them.
