Smith is notoriously shaky in the 140s. That's when England need to look to get him.

Even in the warm-up Stuart Broad's knees were pumping. When he is the senior bowler without Jimmy Anderson he knows he has to step up. Broad has done just that so far.
Beaten! Oh, Stuart Broad has been really good this morning, tempting Matthew Wade into a yahooing drive outside off stump and it somehow avoids the edge.
Steve Smith thinks about having a flap at a short ball from Broad but he lets it go safely through to Jonny Bairstow.

Can we pay some young scalliwags to keep whipping that sheet off the van every so often when Smith is on strike?
Jim, Bucks
Would anybody be opposed to a Mankad to get Smith out?

There has been a noticeable improvement from Archer in the last few balls.
Aus 186-4
Edged - and it's just short of first slip!
Oh, Matthew Wade got completely turned over by that one. His head whipped behind him as the ball took the outside edge and it bounced just, just, in front of Joe Root at slip. 89mph and it didn't carry...
Jofra Archer has bowled some absolute leg side nonsense this morning.
Now that's more like it! A short ball that climbs and Matthew Wade, trying to duck it, gets a smack on the wrist to keep him alert. Ouch.

Before this series started I had major concerns about Broad - I thought maybe his powers were on the wane. How wrong I was.

It's not all been cheer for England this morning.

Football might still be working out whether to celebrate the first time in a VAR world, but cricket has it sorted - a massive cheer when the finger is raised and another when Travis Head opts against a review.
Matthew Wade plays off his pads to get his innings underway.
Stuart Broad must love having these left-handers to bowl at.
Here's Matthew Wade...

Beautiful bowling. It hit just below the knee roll. Head was rooted to the crease. At most it might have been umpire's call.

Travis Head has played all over that.
Head lbw Broad 19 (Aus 183-4)
You know this is out because Stuart Broad hasn't bothered to appeal!
Oh, this looks plumb, and a horrible innings by Travis Head is brought to an end. He played all around his pads, got smacked on the knee, and I reckon that was thwacking into leg stump. He has a brief tete-a-tete with Steve Smith about the review before trooping off.

Patrick Brennan: It should be against the rules for Smith to get any luck - he's too good to get that as well...
Jonathan Agnew

It is exhausting watching Steve Smith. I need a lie down after this.
Smith 71, Head 18
Steve Smith plays away from his body in a slightly jerkier fashion than usual and gets a rap on the glove for his troubles.
Archer's not quite found his rhythm yet and a poor bouncer ends a maiden over.
There's a bit of noise rumbling from the crowd as Jofra Archer bounces Steve Smith...
