Thanks Jamie - tricky one to call this at the interval.

I reckon that score's probably worth about another 25-30 runs on an even-paced surface so that old adage of scoreboard pressure could well be a factor here for Essex to handle...

How will Essex approach this chase under the lights in the bracing air then? Over to Adam Williams to find out.

Lancashire will be quietly confident with that score.

But they'll have to bowl and field well to defend it. They can take a lot though from how Essex used their slower bowlers early on.

But Essex can also use how Lancashire built that innings as their template for the chase.

And they scamper through for two more into leg-side. So Essex will need 160 to reach Finals Day at Edgbaston on 21 September. A fine innings from Davies, unbeaten on 80 from 55 balls.

They've been some remarkable shots from Alex Davies in this knock.

He's seeing it well towards the end now and he knows what he can and can't get away with on this pitch with these ramp shots.

  8. Lan 152-5published at 19.1 overs

Fabulous hand-eye co-ordination from Davies and the reverse sweep brings him a ninth four and the Lancashire 150.

Faulkner is through his shot by the time Beard's slower ball reaches him and it is an ungainly departure.

It's Davies with the improvisation, successive pre-meditated ramp shots at Beard bring him back-to-back boundaries.

Dane Vilas has delivered that ball pretty much right into the hands of Paul Walter on the boundary.

Jamie Porter looked like he was searching for that yorker length but had just slightly over-pitched it.

Thankfully he's just got his foot behind the line as well to avoid any embarassment.

    Vilas c Walter b Porter 41 (Lan 136-4)

Caught on the square leg boundary, Vilas looked as though he would get a reprieve by a no-ball but after several checks, it is deemed a legal delivery and he is on his way.

Games like this are interesting as until both sides bat on the pitch - you can't really judge it.

Essex may come out and find run-scoring a lot easier to begin with.

That's the beauty of the game.

  17. Lan 130-3published at 17 overs

A productive over for the Red Rose as Davies strikes Zampa for his sixth four and adds a series of twos, the Australian finishing with 0-34 from his four overs and the mellifluous tones of George Benson's "Give Me The Night" blaring out rather incongruously over the PA.

I think they've played really well so far in pacing this innings after a difficult start.

Essex have the advantage though of having bowled first on this surface so they can formulate a plan in the innings break.

The broad-shouldered Delport continues and after a leg-side wide he then sends down a short one that Vilas latches on to and dispatches over backward square for the first six of the match.

This might not be Alex Davies' most exciting or blistering half-century, but it may end up being his most important.

He's put his ego aside so far and played a very intelligent knock in the circumstances, this partnership is really key for one of them to be still there at the end for Lancashire.
