SA 189-5
Dom Bess goes round the wicket to Rassie van der Dussen but is bowling too straight a line.
It means the South Africa batsman can just get right in behind and defend down the pitch. Needs more going across him.
That's another maiden though and time for drinks.

Once waited for Merv Hughes autograph at the Oval. "When I've finished my lunch," he said, tucking into a baguette. I hung around patiently and when he finished I approached him, only for him to pull out another out of his back pocket and carry on eating! I left him to it...

That has ragamuffined. That's Shane Warne, the ball of the century. Keep popping them there and something will happen.
Shane Denly gets one to fizz a mile out of the rough and leap up at Quinton de Kock, who rocks back and is fortunate not to nick off or deflect it onto his stumps.
That's four maidens in a row.
South Africa aren't running for the hills.
But they are facing a lot of maidens.
More tidy work from Dom Bess. He's held an end really well this Test and picked up two vital wickets. Can he get more to bowl his side to victory today?
I think that might be treason.

The Newlands Crack: Doing everything I can for you here lads.
Denly completes a maiden over.
An extremely tough chance but technically it is.
Quinton de Kock drives loosely at Joe Denly, but the ball bites through the gap between bat and pad.
De Kock has put in a big stride and is out of his crease as the ball deflects off Jos Buttler's shins but misses the stumps.
Would've been gone if it had hit the timbers or Buttler had collected and taken the bails.
Tidy from Bess. A maiden.

Spin at both ends is interesting. Denly has got the ball to spin very sharply from outside De Kock's off stump. Root is trying to pile some pressure on the inexperienced Van der Dussen.
Cape Town or Chittagong?
The crack's not done much for the seamers so Joe Root goes double spin.
Dom Bess is back on.

Essay is in with a few minutes to spare! I haven't felt adrenaline like that since Stokes' summer triumphs... Over to England now.

Oooh. Joe Denly gets bite and bounce first up and Quinton de Kock has to fend it away off the gloves.
He will also bowl some gimme balls though and De Kock and Van der Dussen pick up an easy single each.

I think it's good captaincy to give Denly a few overs against the left-hander with that rough outside the off stump.
Joe Root calls for Joe Denly from the Wynberg End.
The left-handed Quinton de Kock is now on strike - lots of rough outside his off-stump for the part-time leggie to aim at.
Denly of course dismissed Dean Elgar yesterday.

This is how the day was going to play out - South Africa were going to get stuck in and England have bowled the ball in the right area. They couldn't have done much more, other than be a bit more attacking and encourage South Africa to play a few more shots.
A mate of mine at uni just had to stop writing his dissertation mid-paragraph as he had worked out he otherwise wouldn't have time to print it out and sprint to the English department in time for the strict 3pm deadline.
If he can, you can, Esther.
Quinton de Kock will take runs if on offer, driving through the covers but just getting one as Zak Crawley makes a half-stop.
