England captain Eoin Morgan: "It was an improvement on two days ago for us, certainly in the bowling department. With the bat it was more disappointing.

"We stuttered in stages and regrouped with Moeen and Sam and proved that when you get a partnership going it is hard to stop the scoring.

"These are the types of games we want to play in though to learn as much as we can under pressure."

Pakistan took wickets when it got tight, which is the best way to slow the run-rate.

  4. 'I wanted to be that enthusiastic kid'published at 21:52 British Summer Time 1 September 2020

England all-rounder Moeen Ali, speaking to Test Match Special: "We played OK. It's obviously disappointing when you don't win but it was a good game of cricket.

"It was more like a mindset switch really. I tried to play like I did in my first few games for England and be busy at the crease. I feel like I've been lacking that for a long time, really

"I wanted to be busy every ball - be that young, enthusiastic kid and enjoy my cricket today. It shows when your mindset is good, you can go out and perform."

  5. Man of the match & seriespublished at 21:50 British Summer Time 1 September 2020

Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez: "I'm really pleased and happy to perform when the team needed it. Haider Ali was brilliant to watch. He expressed himself nicely. It's nice to see him come through the system and perform well."

I thought England's bowlers were better today. They executed their skills and got their yorkers in better. From an English point of view there has been so many players putting their hands up in this series, and now they have the likes of Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Jason Roy, Mark Wood to come back in. They have an embarrassment of riches really.

It's been an absolute joy to have Pakistan over here - it can't be easy, living in the bio-bubble, and it is massively appreciated by all of us who were desperate to see some more Test cricket.

Olly Monk: Class from Wahab Riaz showing why sometimes it’s better to pick the experienced head over a youngster. Still think England should be looking at Plunkett in white ball cricket - he is to good in the middle overs to be left out.

Pakistan's tour ends with a drawn T20 series but, crucially, they finish it on a high.

That was the perfect delivery to finish it off - 90mph, under the bat. A bloke on 80 not out would have struggled to get that away for six.
