    Worcestershire (200 & 67-2) need 178 more runs to beat Somerset (251 & 193)

A bit too short and wide from Lewis Gregory and Jack Haynes expertly cuts it away for four.

A good, measured start from Worcestershire, 178 required.

    It's getting gloomier!

Richard Vaughan: Personally I think the best tie-breaker would be to base it on which team has the most knights of the realm currently playing. The fact that I am an Essex supporter has nothing to do with this!

    Worcestershire (200 & 63-2) need 182 more runs to beat Somerset (251 & 193)

Big game at New Road and Worcestershire are already off the mark for the day as Jack Haynes hits Craig Overton for four.

We think we'll be okay with the weather today, although we've just been told it's raining at our colleague's home in Kidderminster and heading south.

Here we go then - last day of the group stage is under way.

How long will we have to wait before knowing who is on their way to Lord's in a fortnight?

    Your tie-breaker suggestions

So with Essex potentially being joined by both Derbyshire and Worcestershire on 90 points things could get a little complicated later.

Remember for that to happen, both counties have to win their respective games. Worcestershire, potentially. Derbyshire, no chance!

But with us not sure how to split the two sides, games won, net run-rate etc. if it does, we want your suggestions for tie-breakers.

What's the forecast for this final day then?

Simon King from the BBC Weather Centre says to expect a chilly start, but crucially, it should be dry and bright for the most part.

As well as wins for Kent and Essex plus a few others moving into strong positions, an England legend of the game bowed out of red ball cricket with one last eye-catching knock.

  9. Somerset with one foot in the final?published at 10:21 British Summer Time 9 September 2020

    Worcestershire (200 & 58-2) need 187 more runs to beat Somerset (251 & 193)

Somerset look favourites to finish off Worcestershire on the final day at New Road, thanks to the efforts of young opener Tom Lammonby.

Yesterday, the 20-year-old hit an unbeaten 107 out of 193 - becoming the first Somerset player to carry his bat in three-and-a-half years - and the youngest for the county ever.

That set Worcestershire 245 to win and pip Somerset to that place at Lord's. And, although England one-day all-rounder Lewis Gregory removed both openers Daryl Mitchell and Jake Libby, the Pears recovered to reach 58-2, still needing a further 187, when bad light ended play.

  10. Essex through - we thinkpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 9 September 2020

    Essex (236 & 53-1) beat Middlesex (138 & 150) by nine wickets

Reigning county champions Essex, winners inside seven sessions against Middlesex, won the South Group which WE THINK books their place in the Bob Willis Trophy final.

That is however subject to confirmation by the England and Wales Cricket Board's technical committee.

There was a slight added complication when it became clear that the ECB have not yet made a decision on what official status to award Sunday's abandoned Gloucestershire-Northamptonshire game.

Competition rules say, should any match in a group be incomplete, then group positions would be determined in the event of two teams being level, not on most wins (Essex have four, to North Group leaders Derbyshire's two), but average points per completed match, then net run rate.

That could still offer Derbyshire hope, but they would have to beat Lancashire to match Essex's total of 90 points. Lancs are already on 312-6, and lead by 336, making that an unlikely prospect.

So, it all comes down to the final day of the Bob Willis Trophy group stage.

Despite two results yesterday, we still don't definitively know who will be playing in the five-day Lord's final later this month.

Added to that intrigue, there's a small chance we may have a three-way points tie with the group winners, but we stress, that's a small chance.

We'll try and clear all that up later if it gets to that stage!

One thing we can guarantee though is that they'll be some drama as our six remaining games come to a conclusion.

Strap yourselves in - it all restarts in the next 15 minutes...
