Jack Leaning's not just there to keep control - he's got a wicket.

That's big - four wickets down at this stage really does ask questions of the chasing side.

    Birmingham 46-4 (Target 163)

Jack Leaning is thrown the ball almost to run through an over and the part-time spinner strikes gold.

After a couple of singles, he traps Hain plumb in front and Birmingham are in all sorts of trouble.

  3. Birmingham 44-3published at 7 overs

    Target 163

Four off the over from Ahmad. It feels like Kent are starting to get a stranglehold with those two wickets in successive overs. The Bears will be starting to feel the pressure.

Kent have somehow got to get through four overs here of Joe Denly and Jack Leaning with their part-time spin.

Perfect time to bring Leaning on after just taking a wicket.

    Birmingham 44-3 (Target 163)

    Oh yes he can!

Beautiful leg-spin bowling from Ahmad. Yates goes back to try and cut but he's beaten all ends up and has his off stump knocked out of the ground.

Qais Ahmad enters the attack for Kent. Let's see if the Afghanistan leg-spinner can unfurl his box of tricks.

  7. Birmingham 40-2published at 6 overs

    Target 163

The powerplay ends as the Bears nurdle three more runs and are given a wide from the rest of Milnes' opening over.

But with the wicket of Benjamin, definitely a great over for Kent.

Matt Milnes gets mobbed by his team-mates.

He's removed the danger man with a slower ball. Despite being expensive early in his spell, he's managed to be the man to take the key wicket in the powerplay.

    Birmingham 36-2 (Target 163)

Matt Milnes replaces Milne in the Spitfires attack and Chris Benjamin immediately scoops him behind the wicket for a boundary.

But the bowler deceives him completely the very next ball and when Benjamin can only knock it up in the air, Milnes is underneath it to take an easy catch.

  10. Birmingham 32-1published at 5 overs

    Target 163

Klaasen is right on the money from the off with just three taken from the first four deliveries.

Yates responds with back-to-back fours to finish the over - the first chipped over the mid-off fielder and then a pull shot down to deep back square leg.

Denly has done his job and left-arm over Dutch international Fred Klaasen is into the Spitfires attack.

They're not a million miles away the Bears from where Kent were at this stage.

They also found it hard to get the ball away early on.

  13. Birmingham 21-1published at 4 overs

    Target 163

Take a bow Chris Benjamin. He responds to Milne's 91mph delivery with a perfectly judged ramp shot for four.

But from the New Zealander's slower ball, Benjamin is through his shot a bit early and it clanks into his helmet.

Only six from another tidy over.

Joe Denly had the quicker ball in his locker there to fire to through.

Adam Hose won the battle to begin with with his six but then Denly had the final word.

Two balls after being pumped into the crowd, Denly comes back with a bang. Adam Hose comes down the wicket, misses and it is stumped all ends up by Billings.

Kent needed early wickets and they've got one.

Adam Milne has that extra bit of nip and pace and we saw it there with his first ball.

Couple of early balls just too quick for Rob Yates as he beat him outside off.

  18. Birmingham 7-0published at 2 overs

    Target 163

A terrific over from Milne as he nudges up to 90mph, showing his class. Backed up by a wonderful piece of wicketkeeping from Sam Billings, which saves a certain boundary.

But as Milne looks like getting a brilliant maiden, Rob Yates gets a boundary with a cut for four.

Adam Milne to take the ball at the Pavilion End. Last week at Lord's, the Kiwi was playing for Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred. Now he's bowling against the Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast. Still with me?

  20. Birmingham 3-0published at 20:37 British Summer Time 27 August 2021

Excellent start from Denly as Birmingham can only pick up three singles and really can't get the ball off the square.
