Time for us to call it a night. I doubt I'll be able to sleep anytime soon after all that excitement though.

I'll leave you with Stephan Shemilt's report and we'll back from 19:30 GMT on Wednesday for the third T20 in this five-match series.

It is nicely poised at 1-1 after England's one-run win tonight.

Do you think that Romario Shepherd is regretting turning down that single now?

That was utterly chaos, wasn't it?

Has everyone caught their breath yet?

England should have won that comfortably, with good performances from Jason Roy, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, but the wheels came off slightly at the end.

Tony: Wow, one of the worst wins I’ve seen by an England team in any sport

  6. 'For the majority of today we were brilliant'published at 23:52 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

England captain Eoin Morgan: "I was delighted and even with the last quarter with the relatively inexperienced international side those are the games you want to play in. Even if you look back at the World Cup we didn't have that many tight games and today was a good example of that and hopefully with more experience we'll get better at executing. For the majority of today I thought we were brilliant. We managed to build partnerships and take advantage of the short boundary. The clarity was much better today.

"It is about establishing a rhythm of a partnership and just trying to get used to that. It is unusual for us to not work with pace on the ball. We adapted really well today and countered things that West Indies offered.

"Every team in the world is trying to get better at the end - it is the most difficult thing in the T20 format. I've got to be honest it did get easier to bat towards the end. Ultimately we have to find better ways to go about it and the execution was nowhere near as good as we'd want it to be.

"We do want to go yorkers, but to be brutally honest we just missed our mark today."

West Indies captain Kieron Pollard: "You tend to struggle when you lose five wickets early and then three in a cluster. We know the guys at the end can hit the ball a long way. Spare a word for Shepherd as well - he's showing that he wants to put up his hand and take responsibility.

"We are working hard on playing spin in the middle. We will overcome it. I can see the confidence with the guys in the changing room. We will have days like this but my thing is the fight that the guys continue to show. The thing for me today is the fielding. Those are the fine lines between winning and losing."

  8. Man of the matchpublished at 23:45 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2022

Man of the match Moeen Ali: "I was quite fortunate with the way I batted and I tried to just hang in there - it was a difficult wicket. Mine and Jason's partnership was a crucial one in the context of the game.

"We thought we'd got a really good score but they played well. We paced it better today and each batter gave themselves five or six balls. Chris Jordan played a great knock at the end with the bat.

"It is going well with the ball. It is a lot clearer now without playing red ball. It was a great wicket to bowl on and me and Rash bowled nicely in the middle."

That was almost the most comfortable one-run win in the history of cricket. At no point did you really believe that West Indies were going to win it but they only lost by one run.

It was a wonderfully mad game of cricket.

I haven't seen hitting like that from a number 10 for a long time - Akeal Hosein, take a bow.

Romario Shepherd finishes unbeaten on 44 from 28 balls, while Akeal Hosein smashed 44 from 16 balls!

    What a partnership.

England look absolutely shell-shocked at the end. What on earth has just happened in the last half an hour?

West Indies were 98-8 and Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein have just put on an unbroken 72 from 29 balls!

Romario Shepherd turned down a single on 16.2 overs and that one run would have meant a tie. And.. we don't know that Akeal Hosein wouldn't have been able to get more than a single off the next ball too.
