Oh that's brilliant from Labuschagne too. Leach tosses the ball up but the Australia number three takes four with a wristy slap. 17 runs from the over. Lunch can't come quickly enough for England.

Warner has got to the pitch of the ball and it was a free swing of the bat.

  3. 6 runs

    Aus 83-1published at 26.3 overs

    And again from Warner.

Problems for Jack Leach and Joe Root.

  4. 6 runs

    Aus 77-1published at 26.1 overs

    Danger.

David Warner lifts Jack Leach back over the umpire for six.

    Stuart Clark

That has hit a divot created when the pitch was softer.

  6. Aus 71-1published at 26 overs

    Trail by 76

We have seen a few of these this morning - balls that take off from a length. It was full from Woakes but Buttler ended up taking it above his head behind the stumps.

I don't know whether that's a good thing for England going forward or not.

  8. Aus 69-1published at 25 overs

Leach is grinning after getting a hand on one drilled back at him by Warner. It was flying towards a particularly delicate area, if you know what I mean. No wonder Leach looks so relieved.

  9. Postpublished at 01:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2021

    Come on, Mark. Stay positive.

Mark Burt: Already sense the writing is on the wall for England. Slips too far back, huge no-balls and missed edges. No discernible captaincy and a game ebbing away…

  11. Postpublished at 01:31 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2021

It is indeed time for a bit of Jack Leach.

  12. Aus 68-1published at 24 overs

    Warner 32, Labuschagne 29

Stokes responds with a delivery that is far too good for Labuschagne. It would have beaten anyone. It may be time for spin. England desperately need something.

    Stuart Clark
Former Australia fast bowler on Test Match Special

This is really delicate for England. They have to fight and not let it get away from them before lunch.

  14. Aus 67-1published at 23.3 overs

The Aussies are whooping in delight. These two are just wriggling free of the stranglehold applied by England's bowlers. They each take a three before Labuschagne drives Stokes to the boundary.

Kevin Ticehurst: Off to bed, I don’t think I can stand this frustration any longer.

  16. Aus 57-1published at 23 overs

Mark Wood has caused the most problems in this session without taking a wicket. Warner plays another one uncomfortably, skewing the ball over the head of short leg. Runs came a little easier in that over, however. Wood had previously been very accurate.

England are in the game here, but they don't want Australia to be 90-1 at lunch.

  18. Aus 50-1published at 22 overs

    Trail by 97

I think Stuart is being harsh there. I don't think Pope could have caught it. It went quickly and didn't carry.

Stokes bowls one to Warner that spits off a length, hitting the opener in the rib cage.

That's half a chance. It's what he's there for. Pope looks to be a good fielder.

  20. dropped catch

    Aus 47-1published at 21.2 overs

More frustration! Labuschagne tries to pull Stokes and almost hits it straight to Ollie Pope at leg gully. Pope is there for that shot but it reaches him on the half-volley.
